Thanks to U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy's ruling (PDF file of preliminary injunction order) that the Endangered Species Act protections must be reinstated for wolves in both Montana and Idaho, be prepared to hear of more reports about large packs of wolves roaming the countryside in neighboring states like the one that was filmed in Oregon. Even though neither state, Washington or Oregon, were part of the Fish and Wildlife Service's wolf reintroduction program, they are definitely a recipient of the outcome. It was the late "90"s when the first wolves made it to Oregon, now they are beginning to roam in large packs.... (excerpt)

The intellectuals and elites are all for re-introducing the predators back into the herd of sheep whether they are wolves, criminals, or Muslim terrorists. It wouldn’t be fair to do anything less! It’s a good way of thinning the herd.
If a rancher looses livestock to them...reimburse out of tax dollars.
Wolves don't attack people and as far as I know there's not a documented attack on humans by wolves in over 100 years.
However, Mountain Lions and Bears attack humans EVERY YEAR, multiple time per year.
Should we kill all of them too?
Britain has it’s weirdos also.
“Wolves in Wales appear to have vanished in the early medieval period. The last reference to them is in 1166 when a so-called “madwolf” was reported to have killed 22 people”
“A BIZARRE campaign is being hatched to return wild beasts such as bears and wolves to the forests of Wales.
While most conservationists in Wales are busy trying to bring back the harmless dormouse and rare butterflies from the brink of extinction, the Wild Beasts Trust is going a step further.
It is trying to bring back “man-eating” carnivores that have not been seen in the wilds of Britain for centuries, such as bears, wolves and lynx.
Inspired by the restoration of the osprey and red kite populations in Wales, the Scottish-based group said it is already reintroducing beavers, which have not lived in Britain since the mid 17th century, into Tayside and it has its sights set on Wales too.”
The wolves have the elk herd in Yellowstone and around it cut in half, so less elk to hunt. They are up in the Big Horns so will clean the elk and deer out here.
Umm, Candice Berner, an Alaska school teacher was attacked and killed by wolves last March.
There are numerous documented wolf attacks on humans...
Holy crap! That’s one big wolf!
It’s not wolves, but bears here- I can think of two cases (one this Summer, the other several years back) when bears travelled through the city of Pittsburgh. Bears. Liberalism is destroying this country.
A wolf acting in protection of young?
Or, a documented case of predation?
Even IF predation, we see dozens of cases every years of DOMESTIC DOGS killing humans...
Should we kill all of them too?
A breeding pair in Central Park would be interesting
I was in Oregon for an elk hunt in the Malheur Forest of eastern Oregon in 1997. While I was there I got to thinking how much different the hunt preparations would be if there were Grizzlies in those mountains. My brother assured me that the last Grizzly South of the Columbia River had been killed 105 years before, and there was no way they could swim that!
In 1998, on the next mountain range north of where we camped, a ranger was trapped in his truck camper for hours by a big Grizzly. It seems that there may have been a secretive operation by the state biologists to re-introduce a breeding pair of the bears back into the area.
I’ve changed up to a .375-338 for all subsequent hunts.

Well don't you sling the propaganda around. Wolves do attack people, they attack anything that looks like food. There are many documented attacks on humans in the European records, you might want to take a look at them sometime. The BS about wolves not attacking humans is something the greenies made up in order to justify sticking them back into the states.
Ranchers don't want to be reimbursed they want to keep their herds multiplying and make money selling the meat, wool or whatever.
You are saying, fine, let the wolves kill all the livestock and let the taxpayers pay the Ranchers so they can make a profit and feed the wolves.
People used to say Mountain Lions didn't attack people either but they sure as he** do.
Think about this: Dogs are wolves closest relatives and they attack and kill people almost daily, in the US and other countries, so what makes you think that wolves, who are more vicious than any dog, will not attack and eat humans?
Wolves don't attack people and as far as I know there's not a documented attack on humans by wolves in over 100 years.
"Umm, Candice Berner, an Alaska school teacher was attacked and killed by wolves last March.

And, in THAT case the Canadian Wildlife Department testified in court that death was the result of a bear attack.
I’m with you...I hate over reaction on this stuff and you make excellant points...relax. Not everyone is ready to extinguish the wolves.
and, of course, there is the historic fear of wolves.
Re-introducing wolves is just another way for socialists and other commie leaning liberal elitists to thin the human herd.
I like the photo, but wasn’t that proven to be fake?
I have a friend who is with Fish and Wildlife in Oregon. They have been working with a rancher for a couple of years who has done everything they suggested to protect his livestock from wolves. He just lost 30 yearling sheep.
When the wolf reintroduction was proposed, supposedly the ranchers would be reimbursed for their losses, but it was never funded so he’s out of luck - as is every other farmer/rancher in Oregon.
Typical liberal thought process - here’s what we want (wolves are nice creatures and won’t it be nice to have them in the wild again) - bend over.
\ Grow up. Bears and Lions both are hunted and in the states they aren't hunted they are kept in check by people shooting them illegally. As for dogs, they generally don't run wild and most of the killings are by a particular breed or breeds, the owners are responsible and in some cases have been sent to jail for murder. This keeps the amount of dog attacks down to a minimum. However, you answer the question of wolves attacking humans by your own senseless arguments. If Dogs attack people then wolves sure as he** will, and do, attack people.
Coyotes, which are in reality small wolves, attack people every year, they are also hunted, which tends to keep attacks on people to a minimum. Fear of humans does that. By not allowing these wolves to be hunted they have no fear of man and are more likely to start snacking on humans, they certainly have no fear of coming onto ranches and killing off livestock, which my tax dollars have to pay for.
Seems to me you have some more recovering to do. You are another who claims to be smart, but your own statement proves you are ignorant of the facts.
Go back to smoking your pot and singing coom by yah at the campfire with thin injuns lib.
That is absolutely correct. The European wolves were very aggressive toward humans and were killed off as a result.
I see folks citing articles that are composed of conjecture (and there are refutations to most), but I have yet to see a link that substantiates a documented case of a wolf killing a human in North America in the last 100 years.
And, even if there were 10, I would ask this audience: Compare that to 12 deaths annually in the US due to Domestic Dog Bites!
http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/dog50.pdf
Should we kill all domestic dogs?
You earned that award! Just grand
“This beautiful photo of a wolf jumping over a fence elicited the usual rabble of “fake!” claims when it won a prestigious wildlife photography competition. The photographer denies the claims, but he’s just been stripped of the award.
Unusually, nobody doubts that it’s a real wolf (as opposed to some sort of photo manipulation)the controversy is that the wolf pictured may in fact be a tame wolf by the name of Ossian. The evidence: It’s an exceedingly rare species, hardly ever seen in the wild; a wild wolf would be more likely to squeeze through the fence than leap over it; and, um, it looks like Ossian (I guess there are people out there who can tell wolves apart; I can barely tell that it’s not my neighbor’s dog). Jesus termed it “the ultimate FAKE internet whining.”
The judges for the Natural History Museum have decided after awarding this photo the top prize that the wolf pictured is in fact a tame specimen, which breaks the rules of the competition.”

If you read the caption to this photo, it says Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009.
Jose Luis Rodriguez was forced to admit the wolf in the photo is a tamed wolf he rented out for the day to take the photoshoot. The award was rescinded.

Whoops! Wrong Wolf pack!
I don’t know whether that remark should be classified as wacky or just plain idiotic...
fruit loops

Evidence provided by Rodriguez's accusers point to a black scar under the wolves' right eye
That aint gonna put me to sleep!
Bears usually avoid human beings but there is an occasional attack due to cubs being around or the bear is starving. Where do you think the term, “bear market” originated?
Mountain lions are usually very solitary and attacks on humans are rare. Between 1890 and 2004 about 20 people have died from being attacked.
Why should we add more predators to those that are already out there? You want to see more human beings die?
As a New Englander ignorant about these matters, is there anything practically that will prevent some public spirited hunters from plugging these things and moving on if the packs become a problem?
Under that logic, should we kill all domestic dogs? Domestic dogs kill 12 people per year on average.
What happened to common sense?
If a wolf is causing a problems, coming onto private property getting near kids and or killing stock on private property, kill the damn wolf...Can the government and it's over paid agents not see this as justified?
What is the GD problem?
The way I see it, if the wolves are not bothering anyone, leave them the hell alone, but if someone shoots one on their private property for good reason...So what?
Lemme guess, this is against federal law?

...you answered my question
Photographic Proof That Wolves Do Kill Without Eating Their prey
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2565500/posts
You didn’t answer my question. Do you want to add more predators to the wild that will result in the deaths of more human beings than what is already occurring?
You slightly overstate the case. On rare occasion, wolves attack humans, esp sick, injured, or old ones. Then again, it is RARE. See http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_attacks_on_humans esp compared to other carnivors. I’m with you on this one.

—Alaska State Troopers said yesterday that a woman found dead in Chignik Lake early this week was most likely killed in a wolf attack, and state authorities are on their way there to try to capture or kill the animals. This from ANCHORAGE, Alaska. It is true. Do not want to believe?
By the way, your ignorance forced me to post the whole article because you are the type that will never follow a link if it proves how ignorant you are.
Candice Berner, 32, appeared to have been killed Monday evening during a run along a remote road outside the community on the Alaska Peninsula, according to troopers. An autopsy yesterday determined the cause of death was "multiple injuries due to animal mauling," troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said in a statement.
Based on interviews with biologists and villagers in Chignik Lake, troopers concluded wolves were the animals most likely responsible, she said.
The state Department of Fish and Game wanted to conduct DNA testing to help study the incident, but troopers are convinced it was a wolf attack, troopers director Col. Audie Holloway said.
"We are as close to 100 percent certain as you can be," Holloway said.
Troopers investigating the scene found many wolf footprints around the body and bloody drag marks in the snow, he said. Berner's body had been partially predated and had teeth marks on the throat, which was severely damaged and was the likely injury that caused her death, Holloway said.
Investigators were able to conclude after the autopsy that the animal injuries caused the death and were not inflicted post-mortem, he said.
"She was bleeding as she was being moved, being drug, and the damage to the throat," Holloway said. "The medical examiner concluded that she wasn't killed by any other method and that the damage to the throat was severe. There were animal bite marks on the throat.
"Wolves, just like big cats, usually attack the wind pipe area and try to control the victim that way."
It appeared the attack was predatory, motivated by wolves wanting something to eat, he said.
Holloway said troopers and Fish and Game biologists were on their way to Chignik Lake yesterday planning to capture or kill the responsible wolves.
They believe at least two or three were involved, he said.
"We'll stay as long as we can to make sure the public feels as safe as we can make them feel living in Alaska," he said.
Berner, a 32-year-old special education teacher based in Perryville, was found dead Monday evening by a group on snowmachiners traveling along a road outside Chignik Lake.
Berner, originally from Slippery Rock, Pa., stood about 4 feet, 11 inches tall and was an athletic person, an avid runner, according to her family. Officials from the Lake and Peninsula School District said Berner left work at the end of the day Monday to go for a run.
The snowmachiners came across the scene of her death a short time later.
In the wake of the death, villagers began hunting for wolves in the area, which they say have been coming increasingly closer to town in search of food.
Yes.
Wolves like to hunt and they will hunt people without hesitation. The "mystique" around them is pure advertising.
Sad too.
What about the dozen killed every year by domestic dogs?
Should we eliminate that threat?
I never advocated killing all the wolves, although I think bringing them back into the states was a mistake, but they need a season on them in order to keep the packs in check.
Once they kill off all the deer, elk, and moose in the USA, and in some areas they have almost reached that point, they will turn more and more to livestock and then to humans. Whatever is easiest to catch is what they will kill and eat, and that includes humans. The reason there isn't any records of wolves attacking humans in the USA for the last hundred years is because for most of that time wolves were extinct in the US.
As for EU wolves being more aggressive, that is true of the original gray wolves that the USA had but the ones imported from Canada and Alaska are bigger and more aggressive than the original. There will be humans killed as soon as the wild prey goes away.
Mountain lions didn't start attacking humans in numbers until they ran out of range, becoming over populated in areas with wild game and moving into close proximity to man.
Wild predators will hunt and kill anything that is edible and that includes humans.
As for saying that if they only kill 10 or 12 people a year being an acceptable number, I suppose you would think the same if one of those victims was a relative to you or yourself.
