BURIEN, Wash. Carlos Hernandez packed up his family and left Arizona after the state passed its sweeping immigration crackdown. The illegal immigrant's new home outside Seattle offered something Arizona could not: a driver's license.
Three states Washington, New Mexico and Utah allow illegal immigrants to get licenses because their laws do not require proof of citizenship or legal residency. An Associated Press analysis found that those states have seen a surge in immigrants seeking IDs in recent months, a trend experts attribute to crackdowns on illegal immigration in Arizona and elsewhere.
"It's difficult being undocumented and not having an identification," said Hernandez, of Puebla, Mexico. "You can use the Mexican ID, but people look down on it." An American driver's license is also a requirement for many jobs.

We are being destroyed from within by the insanity of liberalism. If Obama is re-elected in 2012, as Medved predicts he will be, then this nation is finished.
yup our country is killing us
Good, I hope they all get the word and go to those States. Then when those taxpaying citizens are up to their neck in crime, hospital bankruptcies, schools overcrowded and the rest, or can’t order a coke without knowing spainish maybe they will understand why AZ can’t take it anymore.
and here the Obama Admin just released a story that they were all being deported. ya, deported to WA. oh well, someone has to work, and at least these people WANT to work.
Wait until these states [in these tough economic times] see their costs for social services skyrocket [and, thus, citizens’ taxes] ...
Then, they’re gonna want to run ‘em outta town ...
But ... what happended to ‘Real ID’?

19 of the 26 are citizens of Mexico.
Get out more coffins, states, because your new inhabitants are going to kill your citizens. Payback, asshats.
Is this the same Medved who, on his radio show, was kissing up to Al Gore while on special election night coverage in 2000?
Are you kidding? The only ones run out of Washington State are Employers (Boeing) and taxpayers. Our Libs, both Republican and Democrat LOVE Illegals, Union thugs and deadbeats and welcome them with open arms. They have an endless list of ways to tax the Productive to pay for the Leeches.
So Hispanics compose 9.8% of the state’s population and contribute 73% of the state’s most wanted criminals.
What’s not to love about immigration? Every city should be a sanctuary city!
Medved has returned to his Hippy Liberal beliefs and gone back over to the Dark Side. He’s wrong about a dozen times for every time he right. I can barely stand to listen to him any more. Occasionally he touches on a subject I am an authority on, and he absolutely refuses to listen to any facts or proof.
We already know in NM thanks. Our governor put that law through, not the voters. Please do not wish any more of this crapola on us!
Richardson can’t run again (thank God) but he also made in-state tuition at colleges immediate without the year waiting period in NM LAW BUT ONLY FOR children of illegal immigrants.
Our daughter moved back in with us to finish college and moved from MT where we used to live. She paid out of state tuition costs for her first year.
Yeah, I switch over to Hannity if I happen to be listening during that timeslot. Better a “rah rah” cheerleader who’s at least an America-loving patriot than a guy who spends more time attacking our side than than the real enemies of freedom.
I don’t know where they are coming from w/UT. Because starting a few months ago, birth certificates and state id’s that date only from Jan. 2010 are the only 2 of the id’s they’ll allow to get driver licenses (people from other states or country’s are allowed a couple more.
They used to accept a range of documents for id before! They also insist on proof of residence (there are a few more proofs of that than they allow for id). Yet I’d swear they allow more documents for people out of state or out of country! But not a heck of a lot even for them!
My point is that they have really cracked down on what they’ll allow and not allow! They seem much stricter than they were! They insist on id, which of course they always have and legal residence! But they’re very picky about what documents you can use! One of my kids just went to get her license renewed, and she was really worried about having the right documents for proof of residence and id; and she was born in US and in Ogden, UT! Another thing, she’s 33 years old!
What I can’t understand is that they insist on a birth certificate every time you get license or id renewed. But the weird thing is: is that if you have a driver’s license or id on file, naturally, you would’ve had to have a birth certificate in order to have received it in the first place! Why should a person have to show it again for renewal?
They’ve become much stricter in voting in UT also. You have to have some picture id mostly, and proof of residence as well. They’ve never been THAT strict before! I’ve gotten out my id and voter card before, and they’d barely glance at it! They’d ask for name and address, look it up in a book, and have you sign by it. Now you have to show id and proof of residence, or you just can’t vote! Don’t get me wrong, that’s not a bad thing. It’s just remarkable in that they never, ever did it before! Well at least in the little UT town I’ve lived in for many years.
Their laws do not require proof of citizenship. Bahab’s eye brows lift has idea.
Ping!
I would have thought after the 9-11 debacle that this would not be happening anywhere in the US. Silly me.
