The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America accused New York officials on Tuesday of turning their backs on the reconstruction of the only church destroyed in the Sept. 11 attacks, while the controversial mosque near Ground Zero moves forward.
The sidelined project is the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, a tiny, four-story building destroyed in 2001 when one of the World Trade Center towers fell on top of it.
Nobody from the church was hurt in the attack, but the congregation has for the past decade been trying to rebuild its house of worship. While the mosque project cleared red tape earlier this month, negotiations between government officials and the church stalled last year -- and have stayed that way.
Though the particulars of the two projects are completely different and on the surface unrelated, the church and its supporters see a disconnect in the way the proposals have been handled. An archdiocese official said Tuesday that the situation has created "consternation" for those still struggling to jump-start talks over the church. "We have people that are saying, why isn't our church being rebuilt and why is there ... such concern for people of the mosque?"

The only option for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America would be to say they are building a mosque. They’d get their permit in no time flat.
NOTE TO GREEK ORTHODOX ARCHDIOCESE: They are Muslim. You are Christian. They get to build. You dont’Welcome to OBAMA world.
“why is there such concern for people of the mosque?”
BECAUSE NYC’S ELITE ARE GUTLESS COWARDS, AFRAID OF ANGERING MUSLIMS!!!
That’s why.
Let’s see what the liberals have to say.
They are just toadies doing the work of Mayor bloomberg ~ and that means NO MORE CHRISTIAN CHURCHES IN MANHATTAN IF HE CAN HELP IT.

NEW YORK The World Trade Center sites owner has offered $20 million to acquire the 1,200-square-foot lot of a church destroyed on Sept. 11, freeing one more piece of land needed to rebuild every inch of ground zero.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jerseys board was to consider a complicated land deal with the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at a board meeting Thursday. The leaders of the 300-member congregation have been negotiating with the Port Authority for years over a price for the site where the church stood before the trade centers south tower collapsed onto it on Sept. 11, 2001.
The church agreed to rebuild on a smaller lot a few blocks east.

“The church agreed to rebuild on a smaller lot a few blocks east.”
This is a crying shame. Probably too the church won’t get near the actual value of the property.

A VICTORY Mosque. Fill out the paperwork as a moque and they say oh it is church.
Where is the media?
‘Lets see what the liberals have to say.’
<< crickets >>
Gosh, I am still waiting for MS Fox News (TV) to report this...and for it to be covered by radio talk shows. The liberal silence is not shocking....its the silence from the right about the problems St Nicholas is having getting its church rebuilt...while the Islamics get their Terrorist Hall of Fame approved
wow, really liked your video, potlatch. Your pix were definantly worth more than a thousand words.
Thanks so much Ceo confidimus! Makes it worthwhile!
No prob, xpecially liked when Bin Laden’s head appeared on Obama’s. :D lol
This is an outrage!....All for political motive. Just so these damn radical liberals could say: “In your face, America!”
[xpecially liked when Bin Ladens head appeared on Obamas]
Me too. I should make it go a bit faster though.
Your post says it all.
Greece is Bankrupt, Saudis are not, Follow the petrodollars funding crazy extremists.
[Your post says it all.]
Thank you, that was my hope and I appreciate your comment!
A second American revolution cannot come fast enough . . . and this time we make the Constitution stick.
According to George Demos, that was all a Port Authority lie. They lied again in a recent Wall Street journal article, saying "the church is free to rebuild anytime". Not true. The Port Authority has taken their land and provided them with nothing in return other than bureaucratic roadblocks.
Demos has started a petition to ask Obama to defend the rebuilding St. Nicholas Church", for everyone to sign.
I'm Orthodox (although not Greek), but I'd say this if I were a Presbyterian: If we can't stop the mosque from being built, then let's overshadow it with the biggest cross and church possible with St. Nicholas' through our donations! Even Saudi donations can't outdo a united American Christian front on this issue!
Hypocrisy!!
EXACTLY!! As much coverage as the mosque is getting, NO MENTION of this Church. Incredible!
I kind of suspected as much.

It seems to me that this site should do all it can to bring this story to light. I just did a Google News search and got a “Show all 3 stories” link t click on.
ALL 3 STORIES? You have to be kidding. This should be front page news.

Not necessarily. Several of the churches were deliberately torched (all of one was burnt EXCEPT the altar). Their ministers/deacons all said “it's not the building that makes a church, it's the people”. All that they reported on held services outside the next Sunday.
It would be extremely hard to lose St. Nicholas. As old as that church is, I imagine people have grown up in it; married in it; had their babies christened there; and their final services. Probably, generations of families have attended.
Hopefully, with the attention they are receiving, something can be done to preserve and restore the building.
This guy is trying to do the 9-11 Christian Center at Ground Zero
But Karloutsos called the Port Authority's claims "propaganda" and said the church has complied with all conditions. He said the government should honor agreements that date back to 2004, under former New York Gov. George Pataki.
Pataki, speaking with Fox News on Tuesday, agreed that the church should be rebuilt.

Please freepmail me if you want on/off this list

If this Church were any other Christian denomination other than Orthodox Christians, and if you really had a knowledge of what Eastern Christians endured in the fight against islam, your postings would not be so glib.
As a courtesy I will post a link for you to check out.
All Christian denominations must stand together in these times. This story needs more attention.

There was another segment too, but I can't find it now.
From Aug. 2
Thanks for the links. Hopefully this is getting out via the Greek-American community and the orthodox churches as well as Fox. It smells to high heaven that a mosque would be built when a church cannot be RE-built.
Fr. Arey was just on (7:30 a.m.) Fox and Friends talking about the rebuilding of St. Nicholas. Steve requested people e-mail in to say what they think of St. Nicholas’ being denied to rebuild on their own property.
