INDIANAPOLIS -- A 13-year-old motorcycle racer died Sunday after falling off his bike and getting run over by another motorcycle at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Peter Lenz of Vancouver, Wash., was pronounced dead by the Marion County coroner after sustaining "traumatic injuries." The accomplished teenage rider crashed on a warmup lap before his race and was struck by 12-year-old Xavier Zayat, who was uninjured in the accident.

The young boy's father posted the following on FACEBOOK":

"Peter passed away early this morning when he was apparently struck by another rider," said a posting Sunday on Lenz's Facebook page, which was signed "Dad."

"He passed doing what he loved and had his go fast face on as he pulled onto the track," the posting said. "The world lost one of its brightest lights today. God Bless Peter and the other rider involved. 45 is on another road we can only hope to reach. Miss you kiddo."

I am sorry, but these parents need to be brought up on charges for this kind of neglect. No question the young boy had talent, and no question the parents thought they were cashing in on it - in my opinion anyway.

The kid was competing in a legal event — where’s the abuse?

I have nothing against living dangerously. But I believe that most people with commonsense prefer that the victims be a little father past PUBERTY.

Totally agree with you. I work in trauma and we dread motocross weekends. This is big business and the kids are often the family breadwinners. We’ve had parents push to know an anticipated recovery date because every week off the circuit is less money in the family checking account. Some of these kids have more than one metal plate, rod or nail holding their bones together.

Have you ever had to deal with that kind of grief?

Facebook sure beats calling all the friends and relatives.

The kid could have just as easily died on a farm tractor or sitting in the seat of a car in an auto accident.

His number came up that’s all.

These kids race every weekend somewhere in the country and the safety record is pretty good. How many kids die at Football practice?

We try to protect our kids as best we can, but who is to say how much protection is too much. many kids ride motorcycles, many of them ride with no supervision and no protective gear. Some of them die and we never hear of it but this kid died at Indianapolis and it’s a big story.

My condolence’s to the father , I am sure he blames himself enough, and doesnt need mine.

“I am sorry, but these parents need to be brought up on charges for this kind of neglect.”

.
Where is the neglect?

This was a national sanctioned race for kids of his age group. A similar accident could happen to almost anyone crossing the street.

Good LORD, another one.

So you would cash in on your kids “talent” to risk his 12 years on earth racing a motorcycle at speeds in excess of 100 MPH against other 11, 12, and 13 year olds?

You don’t have a brain do you?

12 and 13 year old boys belong at baseball games, building forts, building tree houses, and hiking and exploring with other kids.

They do NOT belong on top of high performance motorcycles fulfilling some kind of vicarious adventure their sick parents never had.

God help you.

My God, I suspected these kids were the bread winners. Why else would you pusha 13 year old onto a high performance motorcycle and brag he had his “go fast face” on?
