The US State Department Sunday condemned as "deeply offensive" remarks by an influential Israeli rabbi who said he hoped Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas would "vanish from our world."
"We regret and condemn the inflammatory statements by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said in a statement.
"These remarks are not only deeply offensive, but incitement such as this hurts the cause of peace."
Ovadia, who heads a religious party in Israel's ruling coalition, expressed hope in his weekly sermon Saturday that "all the nasty people who hate Israel, like Abu Mazen (Abbas), vanish from our world."

The remarks, as they’ve been reported, were indeed over the top. However, if an 80 plus year old pastor with no official government role (other than “advisor” to one of the fringe parties with a handful of seats) were to say something inflammatory here, or in Britian, would any state department of any country see fit to issue a condemnation? That’s even greater overkill.
So, now they pretend to want peace? Really? The Rabbi in this case is correct, let them be hit by a Biblical plague. Sound extreme? Sound not PC? Sound unfair? Try living with these lying S.O.B.s...then you'll see a very clear picture of why the Rabbi said what he said.

Oh really? Over the top only according to the modern lefty-lib standards where tolerance and non-violence are virtues even when faced with evil.
And if you don’t think the palis are evil, what do you call then a nation of anti-semitic savages, one where pretty close to every man, woman and child supports terrorist attacks aimed at killing jews any which way possible? They have made it abundantly clear time and again that when presented the choices of developing their country and securing a future for their children, and killing jews at the cost of the former, they choose the second without hesitation.
What do they deserve then? Perhaps truckloads of aid money from the UN (that is, from you) and then they will graciously accept peace? Sorry - tried that already, no good. Not long ago if any great power among western civilization was faced with such murderous scum as Israel is faced with today, not only would the overwhelming majority have hoped for the savages to die and not been ashamed of it, but there would be no waiting for some divine intervention to make it happen... It would be done and dealt with and the surviving savages would know better than to continue their murderous activities.

Why is this news? Influential Muslim religious and political leaders talk smack all the time, and no diplomats feel the need to respond directly to it. Foggy Bottom needs this story - seems they always need a new stick to beat over Israel’s head.

Some of them are quite “Imprecatory” with regard to Israel’s enemies.
And if one would google Mahmoud Abas and Abu Mazen, and see what he has to say, I’m sure there won’t be one word of “inflammatory” rhetoric or anything “detrimental” to peace. Nosiree. He’s a man of piece, he is.

Bzzt, wrong answer. Nazi Germany behaved like murderous scum in launching a genocidal attack on a group of people whose only crime was to be harder-working and more successful than the average European, thus becoming the target of envy. For that (among many other reasons) their land was invaded, their cities razed to the ground, and that did not stop until the surviving germans rolled over and begged for mercy.
Had they not quit their attacks on jews by that time but kept on firing rockets and blowing themselves up among whatever group of jews they could find... well, damn right it would have been justified to wipe every last german off the face of the earth. And in 1945 the west would probably still have had the spine to do it, too.
These days though, people - even people calling themselves conservatives - draw moral equivalence between holocaust and killing of murderous scum who have proven every chance they got that their desire for killing and bloodshed surpasses even their desire to have good things for themselves.
Murder is wrong. Killing, that can be anything from wrong to excusable, to praiseworthy. There is a HUGE distinction.
This strong conservative Republican, Jewish supporter of Israel knows enough to recognize that there are plenty of good Pals. 99% of Israelis would wholeheartedly agree and would strongly disagree with your statement.
The sad thing is that Yosef’s statements are being taken seriously. He has little clout in the rabbinical world and less in the political one.
We have to differentiate between a murderous so-called government and a whole group of people. Two very different entities.
