North Carolina declared 'gun free zone' in anticipation of Hurricane Earl
The Examiner ^ | September 2, 2010

Posted on 09/02/2010 2:45:10 PM PDT by La Lydia

"State of emergency declared in North Carolina," the WECT News 6 headline informs us. "Governor Bev Perdue has declared a State of Emergency for North Carolina in anticipation of Hurricane Earl's arrival." From blogger John Jacob H:

"Upon Governor Beverly Perdue’s declaration of a State Of Emergency on September 1, 2010 Dove Hunters, Concealed Carry Handgun Licensees, Target Shooters and all other gunowners cannot possess, transport or use firearms off their personal property as per N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-288.7"

Here's what the statute says...

But time's up for North Carolina gun owners. They can either obey the law, and go defenseless if they have to leave their homes, or just say the hell with stupid, evil anti-defense edicts and take their chances they won't be caught and punished--providing they survive their encounter with the "authorities".

Government, of course, as usual, has things exactly Bizarro-World backwards. It's when the security of a free state is imperiled that the right of the people to keep and bear arms is most necessary.

What an outrageous choice to force a supposedly free human being to make. Especially when we've seen what can happen when unarmed people are caught trying to get to safety by the "only ones" who can "legally" bear arms in an emergency.

As I asked when commenting on that atrocity:

"If you were trying to get to safety with your loved ones and had to make your way through a no man's land populated by looting predators and worse, would you go defenseless?"

Well, would you? Even if you lived in North Carolina?...

I don’t think they’re confiscating them, they’re just not supposed to use them. Kind of like keeping your jewelry in the safe deposit box and never getting it out to wear.

*WTF!? How can people in NC be dumb enough to vote for garbage like this? I recall post-Andrew in S. Miami that owning a gun was a really good thing if you were a citizen.*

I agree, I’ve always thought of people from NC as being a lot smarter and more patriotic.

So, then only criminals will be armed.

Bad plan.

OK, I can read. Now what happens if NC, under color of authority based on this statute, orders you to evacuate your home. In essence, they will have ordered you to give up your guns. This cannot possibly be Constitutional - and I'd like to see the first person charged with violating this (illegal) statute challenge their conviction on 2nd and 14th Amendment.

Were I a NC police officer on any level, I'd pretend not to see any guns, save those possessed by looters (whom I'd likely shoot, just on principle).

What do I think of this proclamation? I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Hmm. I wonder if this means I can’t go to the range tomorrow. I had planned on some target practice.

Sounds like it’s time for a peaceful open-carry march/rally at the state capitol.

Carjacker and mugger alert, your best chance might be now during this emergency. Have at it. Of course, some folks may break the law, so be aware.

If I were there I’d simply disobey the illegal edict. My family’s safety always comes ahead of man made laws.

Hell, they gonna search every car going down the road?

How will they fend off the looters who will ignore the ‘gun free’ zones?

Call 9-1-1 and wait a week for the police to respond?

You can bet Gov. Perdue is protected by guards WITH GUNS and real bullets.

Go screw your mother, you mother screwer, Governess Perdue.

The Right To Keep And Bear Arms is an incorporated civil right now.

NC gun owners, sue the leaves off the trees.

Hopefully this will hurt statewide Dems in November. How stupid is Beverly Perdue? SO STUPID that she makes Senator Kay Hagan look clever!

I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

But most of those 12 probably attended public schools...
