Oval Office rug gets history wrong

A mistake has been made in the Oval Office makeover that goes beyond the beige.

President Obama's new presidential rug seemed beyond reproach, with quotations from Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. woven along its curved edge.

"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." According media reports, this quote keeping Obama company on his wheat-colored carpet is from King.

Except it's not a King quote. The words belong to a long-gone Bostonian champion of social progress. His roots in the republic ran so deep that his grandfather commanded the Minutemen at the Battle of Lexington.

For the record, Theodore Parker is your man, President Obama. Unless you're fascinated by antebellum American reformers, you may not know of the lyrically gifted Parker, an abolitionist, Unitarian minister and Transcendentalist thinker who foresaw the end of slavery, though he did not live to see emancipation. He died at age 49 in 1860, on the eve of the Civil War

But on another note, who goes with beige?

Real estate agents advise using neutral colors like beige when you're preparing the residence for occupancy by a new but unknown occupant. :-)

I think it’s important that he have an office with a relaxing atmosphere for those occasional days when he’s not on vacation.

We need some rug reparations

The rug is full of quotes from dead white men
It is not diversified, there is no hope or change.....

It is not an equal opportunity rug....

The coffee table is hideous. Looks like something from the scratch and dent section of Big Lots.

Each incoming POTUS has $100K allocated for redecorating. I think it’s covered by the (private) White House Historical Society.

My only problem with this makeover is that the end result looks like someone’s basement rec room. Dull. Drab. Boooooooooring.

Is "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" woven in there?

Does Obama have any reference to HIS “57 states” anywhere?

The Audacity of Taupe.

Wish I could take credit for the above. It was the header for an article about the Oval Office in the NYTimes the other day.

vistors will be bored into somnolence I agree. Wow. There is so much beige in this room, that it looks like the inside of an upholstered car. Evidently, it is as I suspected. The Obama's have no taste nor do their hired decorators. Although to be fair to the hired help, the decision to devise this dull den may simply have been Mrs. Obama's, and the resulting yawn an example of following orders.

One of the words on a Chicago police test question was ‘sofa’. The whole test was thrown out years ago by the feds for being ‘unfair’ to minority blacks by using ‘white’ language. The test had to be dumbed down and the list of those passing was the first test was thrown out.

"But on another note, who goes with beige?"

Anyone nostalgic about malaise, Belgian endives and gas lines! Welcome back, Carter!

Obama brings The Jeffersons’ living room set out of the Smithsonian and installs it in the Oval Office

“Oval Office RUG gets History Wrong.”

Yeah, blame it on the rug!

The occupant of the office and chooser of the rug always gets history wrong!

Ya know, Obama could embrace his Colonial roots and say this was intentional. And I don't mean the Kenyan side.

It looks straight out of 1978...which is likely what he was going for.

If he was like my parents, he would have also put plastic over the couch.
