PHOENIX — Standup comic Robert Schimmel, a frequent guest on Howard Stern's radio show, has died after suffering serious injuries in a car accident. He was 60.

Schimmel's spokesman, Howard Bragman, says Schimmel died Friday evening in a Phoenix hospital.

Schimmel was a passenger Thursday in a car driven by his 19-year-old daughter Aliyah. Bragman says Aliyah Schimmel swerved to avoid another car and the vehicle she was driving rolled to the side of the freeway. Bragman says she is hospitalized in stable condition.

I'm not familiar with him but perhaps some here knew of him.

The guy beat cancer several years ago, just to die in a car crash. Sad.

Sorry to hear that. He had a history of heart attacks and cancer.

Very, very crude humor. But his HBO special was hilarious, but not for the feign of heart.

He was really funny, but definitely not if you didn't like rough language.

RIP, Robert. Thanks for the laughs.

Yes, crude but hilarious. His “lawn sprinkler” routine was over the top. But hilarious.

Never heard of him. But then I never listened to Howard Stern. Crapper comedy isn't my thing.

I think he was arrested for beating up a woman a few years ago. Real “tough guy.”

Wow. I actually worked with him a few times back in the 90’s. Last time I saw him, he *literally* kept me in my car listening to him for 2 hours in front of his hotel (I was dropping him off after a radio spot he did) telling me why O.J. was innocent. My lack of experience dealing with difficult people and my fear of losing my job kept me from blowing a gasket and telling him to shut up and get out. So, he taught me a good lesson that I never forgot.

Jeez, between him and Richard Jeni (another comedian, who died a few years ago, who took over my office and doodled on all my work stuff) I learned quite a bit from now-dead comedians.

>>>Crapper comedy isn’t my thing.

Dittos. I’ve always thought Stern and his ilk were a waste of oxygen and electrons.

Well what was the lesson you learned?

And what did you learn from dead comedians?

I wonder if he was wearing a seat belt.

He was a serious a-hole, but he also had empathy and insight into serious cancer.

This is terrible... always seemed OK to me. Comedy is a mean business.

I learned that just because someone has more than me (whether it’s minor fame, money, age, experience, etc.) that doesn’t mean I should allow that person to walk all over me. That’s what I learned by working with two now-dead comedians.

No clue regarding the seatbelt.

I had never heard of this guy, but I feel terrible for his daughter. What a thing to have to live with.

The poor daughter! To be driving the car when an accident kills her father. She must be devastated.

I thought redheds were supposed to be bad tempered and aggressive? LOL.

Anyway, I have heard stories from a colleague who used to work in a local supermarket that is frequented by a well-known Irish comedian who lives in my part of England (you probably won’t know him, he’s only famous in Britain and Ireland). He could be quite funny, but also very rude. If you didn’t get one of his jokes, he would apparently say ‘thats why I am who I am, and why you are only a shop assistant’. I’m sure he meant it to be funny, but they didn’t think so. My mother has also spotted him in this supermarket. She says he started to look worried when she pretended not to know him...
