Madonna can’t sing on tune unless a studio engineer is sweetening her pathetic voice.

Speaking of beat down whores do you remember Madonna’s Sex Book?

"Sounds a little bit like a latter-day Andy Warhol--"

I just saw a Warhol exhibit. He was into the mechanized influence of the machine age on the human spirit. He once said, "I want to be a machine." And, "I want to be plastic." This machine metaphor, which was the heart of his work, wanted to show how it had become the human psyche, the Zeitgeist and the human collective.

I only remember it because it was out when Limbaugh's book was, and when Rush's book was at the top of the NY Times Bestseller list he would boast, that "once again this week, I sit atop Madonna."

Nicely done.

(Still, I must say that “brilliant” is a bit of a stretch for LGG...) ;-)

Fuddy duddy thread on overdrive.

Not particularly a fan of Gaga’s music but she seems to have a good strong singing voice. The rest is just a matter of personal taste. In her business, old farts with faces scrunched in scowls of disapproval is a measure of her success.

This is just a rehash of the Pat Boone fans thirty years ago wailing about the success of Madonna. Who btw is still going strong, while Pat hawks reverse home mortgage infomercials.

>>> Don’t call anyone a skank on this website please, it diminishes us

It certainly does, but without vile insults how else can they pose as morally superior ?

“She’s a 21st century Madonna knockoff.”

Madonna, as much as I disliked her, at least had talent. I wouldn’t call Lady Gaga a knockoff, but more of a wanna-be. And because Pop music in general has sucked this decade, even a wanna-be if they look freakish enough in their videos can make the top of the charts.

I remember when you had to go to a carnival to see a Freak Show. The good ole days.

Yeah... sometimes I wonder if there is anyone under 70 posting on FR.

I don’t know anything about Lady GaGa, however I do know something about the neo-vaudeville, BDSM, freakshow and hipster scene in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Coney Island where Lady GaGa developed her act.

YOu all might not believe it, but Lady GaGa agrees that her act is completely and utterly tasteless and depraved of a host of positive attributes. THat is the whole point of her act. It’s an act where the girls who were not pretty enough, talented enough to dance or sing, or self confident enough to be sensual.... can play out that fantasy on stage in a vaudeville manner.

The stream of popular music GaGa is drawing inspiration from pre-dates the oldest pop music act mentioned by the fuddy duds on this thread. It pre-dates recorded music.

Also, it is meant to shock being as it was developed in a very small BDSM avant-garde music scene, and was never designed for mass consumption and transformed into a scheme mostly about stealing as much money as possible from the public as quickly as possible.

Far be it from me to assume moral superiority over anyone. My opinion springs from the fact that I believe she (he?) is an odd looking critter who has little talent (yes, I don’t care for her musical talents, and that can be construed as a bigoted or prejudiced opinion at your pleasure) and the last thing I think of when presented with it’s persona is sex.

Camille Paglia is trying to reach broad conclusions based on a single short-term phenomenon, as is her wont. Lady Gaga doesn't herald the "death of sex" any more than David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust days or Boy George or Morrissey any other androgynous pop star marked a permanent shift in genders. Quoted for truth. However, I like Lady Gaga, regardless or even because of her image-drivenness and vapidity.

Can someone please post a pic of Sophia Loren.

You don't have to go that far back to find quality female performers - but I'll add my opinion, which is that they really don't make rocker chicks like they used to:

Pat doesn't look so bad, after 20+ years of the rock band life. Any wagers on whether Lady Gaga will be touring 20 years hence?

Mister Ga Ga has male junk in the trunk, too. It fell out at a concert and is posted on you tube.

Hey, didn't the cops arrest Jim Morrison for that?

It’s good for a the briefest moment then it’s over.

For some reason, I think that would probably describe her sex life as well...

Cheers!

Before seeing that video (four minutes of my life I'll never get back! -- including the ad in front), I know realize that it is indeed possible for someone to combine all the bad characteristics of Paris Hilton, Britney Spears,

...and Danny Bondaduce.

Cheers!

There are lots of people with join dates in 1998 that (a) I’ve never seen post before; and (b) post liberal troll crap.

” Camille Paglia. I always look forward to her insightful remarks, she’s one of the few libs with a brain and a sense of objectivity.”

Until the subject turns to same-sex attraction disorder; then she hurtles off into the outer reaches of the nutbar nebula.

Perhaps y’all should wash your eyes and ears out with some of the lovely Bernadette Peters (undeniably both a woman, and talented):

Poor boo. She’s ugly. The dog is cuter than she is.

With all that money I doubt she’ll be lonely.
