This is something that really annoys me about many if most athiests I've met. They seem to really favor Islam. I learned this when I argued with these Libertarian clowns as Underzog at "Reason Magazine."
Just as Liberals should not be supporting Islam because of its gender arpathied, it's Nazi like anti-Semitism, its legacy of slavery and slave trading, its hardcore theology; etc., so athiests should not be sympathetic to Islam for all their talk about G-d not existing, "one can't prove a negative"; etc. However, many atheists do support Islam and in doing so they support the one creed of the three major creeds that explicitely rejects reason and logic (which the athiests claim to be for).
Christians have St. Thomas Acquainas who brought Aristotle back to Europe and Jews have Maimonidies, but when it comes to Islam, Islam rejected its greatest philosopher Averros who would've brought Aristotle to the Islamic creed. Athiests are supposed to be for reason and logic so as with Liberals there is no excuse for their support is Islam.
Incidentally, I met a woman at my job who was Islamic, even did the Islamic dress, who mentioned before that she used to be an athiest with pagan leanings before she adopted Islam.
I don't know if she is still Islamic, but I know she left her Muslim husband because he beat her too much.
Who is this guy? I read today he went to church! But can not mention the word creator! And he is called Hussein?

It’s because they consider Christianity the more immediate threat and favoring Islam is a way of tweaking Christians.

That's a good sign. They've perpetrated all the "change" they can get away with, and they are now moving into the "conservation" stage of the revolution. It's the progressive way.
But little does Obama know that we're going to blow it all up in November. I'll even give 1:3 odds that by 2016, the departments of Energy and Education will be gone.
