House Republicans just released a draft of their legislative agenda for the next Congress, a 21-page "Pledge to America" that they will formally unveil Thursday morning at a Virginia hardware store.

"The need for urgent action to repair our economy and reclaim our government for the people cannot be overstated," the introduction says.

It continues: "With this document, we pledge to dedicate ourselves to the task of reconnecting our highest aspirations to the permanent truths of our founding by keeping faith with the values our nation was founded on, the principles we stand for, and the priorities of our people. This is our Pledge to America."

We should let them know... There is still time to tweak it.

Jobs

- Stop job-killing tax hikes

- Require congressional approval for any new federal regulation that would add to the deficit

- Repeal small business mandates in the new health care law.

Cutting Spending:

- Repeal and Replace health care

- Roll back non-discretionary spending to 2008 levels before TARP and stimulus (will save $100 billion in first year alone) - Establish strict budget caps to limit federal spending going forward - Cancel all future TARP payments and reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Reforming Congress:

- Will require that every bill have a citation of constitutional authority

- Give members at least 3 days to read bills before a vote

I think this is bad strategy, it gives the Dems a “target” they can tear apart ... and this “target” is vulnerable. This wasn’t needed, the Dems are on the ropes, let them use their own rope to hang themselves. All this does now is give them talking points. It gives the DEMS something HARD to focus upon ... and focus they will. Cute idea, (OLD idea) ... actually a great way to shoot yourself in the foot.

It’s a start. I’d like to see a list of names of those that signed on to this and a promise to listen to their constituents. Also, a promise to resign if they fail to abide by this.

Coward GOP needs to pledge to EFFECTIVELY SECURE (within 6 months) OUR BORDERS WITH THE PROMISED DOUBLE FENCE, Pledge to enforce our immigration laws with NO AMNESTY OF ANY KIND FOR ANY ILLEGAL ALIENS, and pledge NO BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP.

This socialistic agenda was a long time in the making, it’s
going to take a while to undo it. With the oversight of the
Tea party, I hope and pray that the Republicans do the right thing!

Right, the Dems can run on increased spending and higher taxes. Good luck with that. What option do you propose? Hiding under the covers?

I don’t like this:
“- Cancel all future TARP payments and reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac”

They should be abolishing Freddie and Fanny not simply “reforming it”. We are suppose to be pushing back Not simply consolidating Government gains already made.

“Repeal small business mandates in the new health care law.”

They should be repealing the health-care law Not simply reducing its impact.

or this:
“- Allow small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income”

As to reforming congress if you want real reform they need abolish the incumbency advantage in getting positions.

Congressmen should NOT be rewarded for being reelected a great many times.

I agree with every thing you want them to swear to.

The word “allow” should not be in that sentence! It is not their money.

It’s a start.

Now how about:
1. Every bill will be read IN ITS ENTIRETY on the floor of the House and Senate. Any elected official who is not present for the entire reading of the bill is ineligable to vote on that bill.

2. All members of Congress shall be required to fully comply with any and all bills that are enacted. No exemptions.

3. Any elected official who is officially charged with a crime while in office shall be prohibited from voting until such offense has been cleared. Any elected official who is CONVICTED of a crime while in office must be removed from office immediately and the state shall elect a replacement.

4. All campaign funds shall be directed to a clearing house (accounting firm) and not directly to the candidate, nor to the campaign fund. The clearing house will verify all moneys are in compliance with the laws of the state, district, or other rules and regulations. Any candidate who is not in compliance, or who takes funds directly or indirectly other than through the clearing house, will be removed from office or otherwise be ineligable to run.

Sorry we don't need any 'stealth' candidates. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

I should add to number 4... Said clearing house will post online all monies given to each candidate including the name of the donor, their affiliations, and the amount given.

It needs to be more specific in many areas. For example BUILD THE DAMNED FENCE ON THE SOUTHERN BORDER. It’s already the law.

Strongly disagree; it diffuses their mantra AND the MSM’s mantra that there were no ideas posed by our side. Let them shoot at it...what is the alternative? Obama’s plans? Look at them.

I would propose pointing out the absolute insanity of what Democrats have done ... they have never (ever!) been more vulnerable than they are now ... HUGE MISTAKES, VISIBLE MISTAKES ... just point at them ... point out what they've done AGAINST the wishes of 70% of the people. That's what you build a strategy upon, the other persons' weaknesses and mistakes laying out an exact opposite strategy. This "pledge" was not that .. spending cuts, but NO TALK of reversing the TRILLIONS in debt!. So talking points against the Dems right now is target rich, no need to come up with something that gives THEM something to talk about. Watch them focus on this "freeze it", in the next few days ... the "pledge" will give them next week's talking points. Without it, they had NOTHING TO SAY and THEY should be hiding under the covers! (It's a perfect setup for Alynski's tactics).

And for the record, as EmC at our recent Tea Party Rally and as a 9 Stripe Vertical Flag waver at the front of the 9-12 Rally in DC last week, I certainly don't need to hide under any covers! :-)
