Socialistic? Never once did Jesus say it was the governments responsibility to take care of the poor. In fact, He said it was a personal responsibility. The Church and its members have abdicated their responsibility and will pay for it.
True. But Jesus knew that would come up short because He said the poor would always be with us. If people accepted this personal responsibility it would not be necessary for religious or government solutions to exist. Well some might be willing if the tax deduction is personally beneficial.
My ol’ mama used to say:
God helps those who help themselves. But, God help those He catches helping themselves.
