I carry a 9MM. In 35 years, I have drawn it twice, but never had to fire.

someone should educate these celebrities that open carry would keep the paparazzi at bay much better.

if celebrities demanded open carry then it would be much harder to deny it to the rest of citizens.

celebs in ny decry open carry because of the john lennon murder... although, if nyers could open carry, perhaps yoko could’ve capped the guy before he dealt a fatal shot...

the 2nd amendment is all the permit necessary to carry... the question is... concealed or open...

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

That's a great bumper sticker but unfortunately there are some real consequences to being judged by 12. For example, if I get caught concealing a handgun in violation of California's unconstitutional gun laws, I can get charged with a felony. A felony conviction will cost me my security clearance. Losing my clearance will cost me my job. Now I'm an unemployed felon in a bad job market with a family to support. Wow. My life suddenly sucks!

So I'm forced to weigh the chances of being convicted of violating a gun law with my chances of being in a position where I need to defend myself. As such, I choose not to carry and use my best judgment in avoiding certain parts of town engaging in certain activities at certain times of day and just hope for the best. And it pisses me off to no end that California has placed me in such a position.

You can avoid certain parts of town all you want. Do you know how many people are robbed, or even shot in upscale areas?

Look use your best judgement, but in 1975 I was almost murdered in a home invasion in Brookline, Mass. and that is hardly a bad neighborhood.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing, just pointing out that people need to weigh the consequences on both sides in their decision to carry in violation of the law. Being without a handgun during an event where you really need one would suck. Being a 41-year old, unemployed, convicted felon with a family to support is also not a desireable outcome.

Hell, even if I use my illegally-concealed gun to defend my life, that doesn't get me off the hook for violating the law to begin with. I may be alive but my standard of living, my opportunities to support myself and my family have been severely diminished by the criminal conviction I'll surely face. That's why these unconstitutional laws need to be struck down and the sooner the better.
