Supporting Democrat power-mad candidates now so we can work harder to defeat them after they sell us out - a la Mike Synar. Yeah, makes a lot of sense to me. {/sarcasm}

I am still very appreciative of NRAs past achievements. I fear it is returning to an organization of elitists.

{they lost me a few years back - seems they were embarrassed by us evil assault rifle enthusiasts}

"... 30 Year Life Member of the NRA, Canceled my membership tonight. The short sighted support of Dems that vote pro second amendment, while helping keep in power the political party that wants to destroy the American way of life, was just too much for me."

Do what you feel like, but if it were up to you the NRA would be a 2nd Amendment group that no elected politician would have any reason to fear. It would be regarded as nothing more than just some new conservative 'Focus On The Family' group that doesn't have any muscle at all on Capitol Hill.

There are plenty of Republicans who are shitheels on your gun rights. PLENTY. And there are plenty of pro-RKBA Democrats who make many Republican politicians look like a mincing little fairy when it comes to gun rights.

With an NRA like *you* want, you'd quickly find out that either you're not even 'conservative' enough for them, or that you'd be eliminating so-called conservatives from your ever-dwindling NRA to the point that the NRA would be composed of just you and maybe one or two of your several kids.

Pretty soon, no Republican would care about your endorsement, or your threats, and no Democrat would even acknowledge that your NRA even exists since there's not a chance in hell that they'd ever get your approval anyway.

Boy, you sure showed us a thing or two.

They are supporting idiot Debbie Halvorsen over a true military and civic hero, Adam Kinzinger. They have sold out to the highest bidders.

I would rather the NRA “stick to their guns” rather than pander to one political party or the other. The second ammendment is my “pet issue”. It trumps pretty much everything else for me. When both candidates suck equally, it’s their gun record that gets my vote. period. I don’t want the NRA clouding this issue with political BS. Just show me how they voted on the issue. Furthermore, they have been absolutely instrumental in the increase in gun ownership rights observed in this country over the past decade. As such, I’m not cancelling my membership and I’m not berating them. They’re doing exactly what they’re supposed to do, protecting the second amendment.

I’m neither a gun owner or NRA member and am astonished that they are supporting Dems.

I just assumed the NRA would always be there fighting for us.

I’m actually surprised this move hasn’t already been done and repeated and advocated a thousand times here on FR. If it has and I’ve missed it....apologies.

Good for you.

I was referring to the Disclosure Act authored by Shummer after the latest SCOTUS decision on campaign finance. Shummer included the NRA with a few other groups to be shielded from this supposed reform. They would not have to disclose their donors.

while helping keep in power the political party that wants to destroy the American way of life

Oh come on. Their goal isn't some amorphous "American Wa Of Life" mantra. It's simple. It's "we support candidates who support the 2nd amendment," with priority given to those already in office who have proven their 2nd amendment devotion through some sort of action.

Guys, it's not a bad algorithm for determining how to throw support.

Good and stay out.

The NRA doesn’t need stupid, short sighted people.

Name a single thing the goa has ever done on their own.

That’s right you can’t since they have never done an single thing in their history.

Keep sitting on the sidelines. The adults have work to do.

Check out my post #44 and the GOP candidates bio, and try to defend the NRA’s endorsement of Obama sock puppet, Debbie Halvorsen.

The goa is a do-nothing, t-shirt company who turned their backs on the Katrina victims, Morton Grove, Winnetka, Wilmette and Oak Park.

They “never compromise” since they never do anything.

The goa is the only gun group that asked the Supreme Court to take the Narrow view making multiple lawsuits like McDonald necessary. Then they refused to help the SAF and the NRA in the McDonald case.

And it was the SAF that didn’t mention the NRA in their first press release even though both parties had equal time.

When you help the antigunners kill the NRA, NO ONE WILL DEFEND YOUR GUN RIGHTS.

For many years I was an annual and voting member. I let it lapse due to things like what they are doing now. Last year I decided to give it another try. I do like the magazine but have let it lapse again due to supporting people who may have a good record on their gun votes but who will support people who will ban them. That is a stupid position in the long run.

And there hasn’t been a serious anti-gun bill in ten years thanks to the NRA.

Are you going to replace the NRA with your quitter buddies?

Go ahead quitter. Stay the f out of my association.

Yup. I won't deny that the NRA makes mistakes, but over the years they have learned some lessons in the proper application of carrots and sticks. From reading the comments from a number of people pushing the GOA, I get the impression that the GOA mainly believes in the proper application of sticks... aimed at the knees of the NRA, the gun rights organization that probably has 100 times the political clout the GOA has. I really don't know how tearing down the NRA improves matters for the GOA's members. To me, it makes as much sense as the welfare recipients that think they're somehow better off if "rich" people are made to suffer.
