Name a single thing the goa has ever done on their own.

That’s right you can’t since they have never done an single thing in their history.

Keep sitting on the sidelines. The adults have work to do.

Check out my post #44 and the GOP candidates bio, and try to defend the NRA’s endorsement of Obama sock puppet, Debbie Halvorsen.

The goa is a do-nothing, t-shirt company who turned their backs on the Katrina victims, Morton Grove, Winnetka, Wilmette and Oak Park.

They “never compromise” since they never do anything.

The goa is the only gun group that asked the Supreme Court to take the Narrow view making multiple lawsuits like McDonald necessary. Then they refused to help the SAF and the NRA in the McDonald case.

And it was the SAF that didn’t mention the NRA in their first press release even though both parties had equal time.

When you help the antigunners kill the NRA, NO ONE WILL DEFEND YOUR GUN RIGHTS.

For many years I was an annual and voting member. I let it lapse due to things like what they are doing now. Last year I decided to give it another try. I do like the magazine but have let it lapse again due to supporting people who may have a good record on their gun votes but who will support people who will ban them. That is a stupid position in the long run.

And there hasn’t been a serious anti-gun bill in ten years thanks to the NRA.

Are you going to replace the NRA with your quitter buddies?

Go ahead quitter. Stay the f out of my association.

Do what you feel like, but if it were up to you the NRA would be a 2nd Amendment group that no elected politician would have any reason to fear.

Yup. I won't deny that the NRA makes mistakes, but over the years they have learned some lessons in the proper application of carrots and sticks. From reading the comments from a number of people pushing the GOA, I get the impression that the GOA mainly believes in the proper application of sticks... aimed at the knees of the NRA, the gun rights organization that probably has 100 times the political clout the GOA has. I really don't know how tearing down the NRA improves matters for the GOA's members. To me, it makes as much sense as the welfare recipients that think they're somehow better off if "rich" people are made to suffer.

I support the NRA. But I wish they would bring the fight on more issues and laws such as the Lautenberg Amendment. How could they support a law that allows the fed to force states to reclassify misdemeanor crimes as felonies automatically when it comes to any case of domestic violence, thereby denying for LIFE the right of Americans to own ANY firearm. This is disgusting and they should be turning the screws on politicians to repeal this garbage law.
That said, I am happy they are here and will maintain my membership.

It is an incestuous bunch

Much like RINO's. People who are in office too long tend to become disassociated from their constituents or members.

The game is more about protecting their jobs than their member's beliefs

BTW: I recently retired from a LARGE forest products company that continues to support far left politicians here(the status quo ones) in Washington state. The NRA's actions are not unusual for an organization that has become bloated with "power"

Hey Jim Robinson. Forty anti NRA threads.

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO REPLACE THE NRA? All talk and no action?

Are you going to have a Freepathon so you can open an office in Washington?

Are you going to hand out money to Second Amendment supporters?

How are you going to cover the sixty lawsuits the NRA has every year to protect the members.

Are you planning on testifying before Congress to protect your Rights?

That’s right, Jim Rob, REPLACE THE NRA WITH YOUR WORK.

Hm. NRA endorsed the current governor, a democrat, in Iowa. Puzzling, as he is down about thirty points in the polls. Frankly, as an independent it is difficult to trust any politician on anything at this point in tbe game, but generally, “liberals” are anything but, esp. with regard to judicial appointments and the like.

Logic would of course indicate somebody on the left has a big pile of money they are throwing around? Might be a story there, if there are any reporters left.

The NRA also endorsed Kanjorski in PA, who is a total sleezeball. Despite the fact that Lou Barletta, his opponent, has received their highest rating, and has been leading in the polls. Of course, the main local paper dutifully reported the NRA’s endorsement of Kanjorski, while neglecting to mention Barletta’s rating in that article. That could have a real impact on the race. I can understand the NRA needing to play politics here and there, but to endorse a candidate who’s opponent has received your group’s highest rating??? It doesn’t make any sense at all. There was also a caller on Hannity’s show today who was upset because they had endorsed a democrat in her pro-gun district as well.

I am on principle dropping my NRA membership also, and it is paid up several years ahead.

In Texas we are infected with Chet Edwards, a chronic do-nothing-but-vote-badly Dem Congressman who was on the short list for Obama’s VP, and a Pelosi lover, and a master of making a few strategic fake conservative votes here and there when his handlers give him permission.

Chet is now running ads about how the NRA endorsed him over the Republican, Bill Flores, who is of course FAR more favorable toward “guns” (meaning orthodox Americanism including the inalienable right to oppose despotic government and to self defense by the use of arms, something Chet knows nothing about).

How DARE the NRA provide aid and comfort to the enemy when at best they cannot even tell the difference between the views of the candidates on guns. The NRA took 5 years worth of my pre-paid dues money and support and spent it fighting my team in order to keep the wrong man in power, one who is on the evil socialist team that is hell-bent on destroying these USA.

(And at worse Chet’s record over the years shows that he is anti-gun if they had the sense to look back a little.)

NRA, you as an organization have become disgusting with your wrong politics. I still love the individual members of the NRA, but my personal role is now going to be waking them up by canceling my membership. Hopefully some actual orthodox Americans will soon take back control of the NRA.

You are being pinged because you may no longer be a NRA member. In case you did not indicate so in your post, would you be kind enough to post the primary reason you have parted ways - the straw that broke the camel’s back ?

This is too small a sampling to be absolutely indicative, but perhaps there is a general trend to be seen here.

LOL, be coherent here bud! You are now reaching for straws.

Let’s get back to the real subject matter here. You would prefer to stay with the NRA that would rather sleep with the enemy..that’s libs, in order to pass 2nd Amendment laws?

So what’s the catch, one sane person should say...

The catch is that MORE moonbat Dems are going to stay in power because of the NRA’s insane stance that as long as the 2nd is respected...all other conservative principles can go to hell.

Harry Reid? LOL..good work NRA. You’re really doing your jobs.

I can’t understand what has happened to Wayne LaPierre. He really was a pit bull when he became the Exec VP at the NRA. He was vicious against Bill Clinton, and also was extremely critical of Bush I after the Ruby Ridge episode (if memory serves). The NRA issued bumper stickers that simply said “Vote Freedom First” (which I still have on my jeep). LaPierre had a clear understanding of what was at stake and seemed overall uncompromising. The NRA has accomplished so much and did so without compromising. I was very proud to be an NRA member; I wouldn’t give them a plug nickel now.

Maybe you should read my post. I agreed with the NRA supporting a gun supporting dem over a gun grabbing repub, but they support Dems over Repubs even when the repubs are pro gun rights. There by keeping the party that wants to take our guns away, in power.
DUMB. We either turn the tide now, or we won’t recognize this country in 2 years. But by all means, keep sending them your money. They have a guy on their board that believes no firearm owned by a civilian should be able to hold more than 5 rounds. An NRA board member. Do you support that too???

I’m a 20 year Life Member and I understand where you’re coming from.

Although I wouldn’t cancel my membership, I haven’t sent them a dime in over 10 years for the very same reasons that you stated.

Stupid and short sighted, for 30 years, finally wised up.
Of course I’m sure you support the NRA board member that said no civilian should have a firearm that can hold more than 5 rounds. That’s a board memeber...
Is he stupid and short sighted, or is it you that’s stupid and short sighted for supporting them...

I think the NRA needs to keep the threat of gun bans to keep their power. They need to keep the power lopsideg in the pro-gun direction, but when they screw up we are all screwed.

So, just how much of your dues and donations went to support the re-election of Harry Reid. Or did you campaign for him personally?

The best group out there to join is the Jews For the Preservation of Firearm Ownership (JPFO). Next best is Second AMendment Foundation. Next is Gun Owners of America. Just my opinion, they are all better than the NRA.

Proud to have given money to all three of these groups, and none (never will either) to the NRA.

Dont apologize Robbin. The NRA loyalists here wont get it. Just looking at what The Comedian posted and how many D’s there just shows we have an organization that claims to have our best interests at heart has clearly lost it’s way.

and I dont know why PD Shooter had to bother Jim Robinson because most here do not agree with his loyalist stance.

I became an NRA life member while at Knox in 80 while attending AOBC, first time I could afford it, I think it was $300 back then and I paid $25 a month till it was paid off. Much later while at Leavenworth, I met a young Chris Cox at a Gun show at KCI Expo Center. While discussing some (anti) gun magazine importation legislation Senator John Ashcroft was sponsoring at the time, I quickly discovered that he a pompous horses ass, who knew it all, and told you so. He really looked out of place, as well as out of touch with the regular folks at a Missouri gun Show.

I am not ready to towel yet and I am currently a Benefactor member. However, I did past over the opportunity the other day to become a member of the “Presidents Counsel”, mostly due the fact that I recently found out Wayne LaPierre salary is over 1 Million a year...

This is one of the biggest problems I have with SINGLE ISSUE organizations: Many of them are BLIND to the big picture.

In the case of the NRA, what the hell good will it do to keep our guns if THAT’S the last freedom tyrants like Harry Reid and his pals come to take. After another 50 years of government school indoctrination, a majority of the adults then will have been so thoroughly brainwashed that they’ll turn them in voluntarily, killing any chance to restore America, the IDEA.

And the saddest thing about that is that they won’t even comprehend what they’ve just pissed away.

“When an opponent declares, ‘I will not come over to your side,’ I calmly say, ‘Your child belongs to us already... What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community’.”

? Do you honestly believe NO OTHER ORGANIZATRION can carry the good fight. People like you are how RINOS stay in power forever. They think they no one else can do the job, and over the years, they turn into the spectors and McCains. That’s what the NRA has become. They are the Arlen Spector of the pro gun groups…
Making back room deals instead of holding to principles…

How is the guy killing the NRA? Please elaborate.

It is a voluntary association. He cannot leave if they start doing sh1t he disagrees with?

By any chance are you a union guy?

That salary is outrageous. There is no reason for him to pull in a million bucks a year for a gun-rights lobbying group. No way. The guy learned a few things from unions, I bet.

Yeah, namely that people who pay money to an organization that's supposed to represent their interests, by God have the right to expect that organization to represent their interests.

And when it shows signs of no longer doing so, they no longer pay money to it.

Pretty obvious trend here.

Just my opinion, they are all better than the NRA.

Better at preaching to the choir, or better at striking fear into the hearts of politicians when they're deciding how to vote on a gun bill?

I'd honestly be interested in seeing any evidence those organizations you mentioned have any real political clout. My resources are scarce enough that I don't really want to be throwing money away supporting organizations that are good at shouting loud, but can safely be ignored by the politicians that do the voting.

That’s statistically unlikely.

Your statement would be true, if the NRA was the same organization they were 30 years ago when I joined.

The reality is, they aren’t. Did you see that list of current Dems the NRA has endorsed for this election.
Do you think even a fraction of them are actually stronger on gun rights than the repub running against them?

I don’t. And if you support Harry Reid, I won’t support you, even if I’ve been a life member for 30 years.

I didn’t come to this decison lightly. I’m actually very sad about it. But I can assure you, it’s the NRA that’s gone soft, not me....

After being in the organization for over 30 years, my NRA membership expired this year and I had already decided not to renew over other matters; even had I not made my decision at that time, endorsing Chet Culver in Iowa would have triggered it. Luckily, the NRA's payback to Culver - for signing "shall-issue" CCW which, politically, he had to do anyway - appears to be too little, too late to keep Lumpy at Terrace Hill. Throw an endorsement down a hole and urinate on the base, guys... brilliant! I'm out, but you still have Harry Reid- and maybe your own Grover Norquist can score you a whole new demographic.

Sad that the original aims of the NRA's founding organization got lost in marketing, fancy facilities and a willingness to cut deals to perpetuate its own hierarchy. I used to think that well-heeled Fudds who equated 2A with the privilege of buying duck stamps were the NRA's biggest problem, but it appears that beltway-itis was the more virulent disease.
