This doesn’t even take into account all the government fees (taxes disguised as fees), possibly fines people pay, tickets, etc. Best is turning things that were never crimes before, into them now in order to fine people and increase revenue.

Government is just taking money from people every which way it can. Don’t care how. Just we want citizens’ money.

I live on a street(Upstate NY) where the taxes average $15K+ (some well over $20K). You’d think the neighbors would be leading the tea party. Nope. Dumb clueless libs.

Me too I left NY (Long Island) back in 1983. In Texas I don’t get raped in property taxes like up there, I still have relatives who own homes up there or rent. Hate to see them getting so ripped off by those a-holes in Albany.

I’m currently trying to sell my house and buy another. I cross off the list any house where the taxes are greater than $1500 a year.

I think I’m paying a little over $1000 per year. But don’t move here. It’s humid and unbearable in the summer, cold and unbearable in the winter. We’re all below average in intelligence and the wimmin r ugly.

The real truth is that we are SERFs living on the land at the pleasure of our Lord who happens to be the local government. Only two states, Texas and Nevada have deeds where the land cannot be sold for taxes.

The real reason for the revolution which is coming is that a couple will not be able to live in the house that the bought and paid for after they retire because of property and school taxes. Changing the governmental structure and laws will take a revolution because of entrenched interests. One can be sure when change is resisted someone has their snout in the trough.

I have worked at the highest level of NYS government and seen the trough from which the piglets feed. Government is like a giant sow. During Lobby Days, the piglets arrive pleading their causes. Not surprisingly, there is a LARGE contingent from AARP. It's absolutely frustrating and disgusting. We need to reclaim state government before the state declares bankruptcy.

The greedy, thieving taxpayers are finally going to get what’s coming to them.

Huh? Greedy? The taxpayers are the workers who labor day and night only to be exorbitantly taxed on their hard won income.

I’m also in Texas. However I moved from NJ where my property taxes were 300% higher. A year after I left, Corzine came after me for an addition 5k.

My attorney told him to piss off. And we won. Can’t imagine how many others who left got hit with a tax bill.

Think further. Frequently, to be a voter you had to be a property holder. The theory being that the only people who should be allowed to vote were the people who would be paying the bills. Understanding that YOU would pay the bills for every government activity was an incentive to keep government activity to a minimum.

There is an old adage that democracies fail when the people figure out that they can simply vote themselves bread and circuses and get someone else to pay for it. How close do you think we are to this situation?

Still think the founding fathers were wrong?

Yes, the evils of property taxes out weigh any good intentions the founding fathers had in regards to voting. Requiring people to own property in order to vote doesn’t require taxing them out of their homes. I stand by my statements about property taxes and the stupidity of the founders in actually allowing property to be taxed.
