A coalition of tea party activists on Monday called for a campaign aide for Delaware Democratic Senate candidate Chris Coons to either resign or be fired for his role in an alleged plot by some Democrats to plant a fake tea party candidate in a New Jersey congressional race.
The Independence Hall Tea Party political action committee, the Diamond State Tea Party and the Common Sense Communities Society said Coons' hiring of Marshall Spevak raises questions about Coons' ethics and judgment.
Coons is running against Republican Christine O'Donnell, a tea party favorite. "We're just going to let the people of Delaware draw their own conclusions," said O'Donnell spokesman Dave Yonkman.
