In Arizona, an illegal immigrant and her family face a stark choice
Washington Post ^ | October 12, 2010

Posted on 10/13/2010 6:53:59 AM PDT by La Lydia

It is a bright afternoon early in the month, a moment of anxiety at a sun-faded apartment complex in north Phoenix. Down a dusty breezeway, workers are painting white a recently vacated unit...And across a barren courtyard, the blinds are drawn over the only window of another apartment, where a conversation is underway.

A week has passed since the state's controversial new immigration law took partial effect, since its supporters began waving signs - "Adios, illegals!" - and since the woman inside the apartment decided the city has become so dangerous for her that it is best to keep hidden inside.

"We are thinking she could go in the back of her uncle's truck - he drives an 18-wheeler," says the woman's husband, John, a U.S. citizen, suggesting how his wife, Viridiana, who is Mexican and crossed the U.S. border illegally eight years ago, might leave Arizona.

"I'm scared of that," says Viridiana, who has a disabled 5-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter.

"We could all go in the van," John suggests. "But then I could be arrested for harboring . . . "

The discussion, one of many such conversations going on across Arizona, and especially Phoenix, the hot, flat sprawl that is the latest crucible in the national debate over the country's 11 million undocumented immigrants. The reason is the law and, more broadly, a shift in mood concerning illegal immigration. Although a federal judge blocked key parts of the measure in July - a federal appeals court hearing is set for Nov. 1 - the anger and frustration that inspired it has continued. At least five other states and more cities and towns have introduced similar legislation and, in this election season, politicians are blaming illegal immigrants for everything from crime to the festering economic malaise....

Oh, boo hoo. Where are the sob stories about Americans suffering at the hands of illegals? We're supposed to sob because some illegal is huddling in her apartment due to the Arizona law. Well, what about Americans who can't leave their apartments because their neighborhoods have been taken over by illegals and turned into dangerous barrios? What about the Americans who've been beaten, robbed, raped, maimed by illegal alien drivers, gotten diseases, had their identities stolen...or killed?

Well boo, hoo. At least she doesn’t have to be afraid of having her head removed with a rusty knife.

Typical Washington Post bleeding heart commie propaganda article.

Since American subscribers and advertisers pay the freight for its very existence, leave it to the ComPost to feature sob stories about illegal aliens instead of seeking out and writing about its own readers and small to medium advertisers who are LEGAL citizens and who are now being forced to make equally-appalling "stark decisions" about their very own economic existence.

But promoting marxism is the Post's ownership's reason for being. They will go down in flames financially themselves rather than abandon their ideology and red journalism.

Americans are getting shot, people are getting beheaded in Arizona and the Bammy administration recommends that Amercians NOT travel through public lands close to the Mexican border.

And this ILLEGAL ALIEN thinks the situation is DANGEROUS FOR HER???!!!!

Trust me chica, the city was more dangerous before the law went into effect. You get no sympathy from me.

Illegals need to return to their own country and change it if it isn’t working for them. They do not need to be here.

Behold the warped mind of the liberal journalist - law & order abiding American citizens are more dangerous than rampant illegal immigration.

Lemme see, missing American feared dead from Falcon lake murder by mexicans, no media coverage. Another monthly mandatory illegal alien violin story, more coverage.

Countless Americans out of work and illegals get the sob story..

Wow...America treats this woman horribly.

Really, really horribly. Now, since we know that America treats her bad, yet she wants to stay...how awful must Mexico be?

Leftists don’t know what to say when you throw that out there.

"I'm scared of that," says Viridiana, who has a disabled 5-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter.

She is here illegally (admitted it herself), and WHO is paying for that disabled child?

This woman should be a poster child for Arizona's law!

I just wish the Federal Government would abide by its own Constitution, allowing states to run their own darned states. That way, citizens could chose where they live and do business the same way they should make any other consumer/business decisions -

Example - Washington State wants to harbor illegals - then let THEIR taxpayers and THEM ALONE pay for all the associated costs. Let THEM pay for their OWN unemployment benefits (100%), let them pay 100% for their own health care. If you live in Washington State and don't agree, then move to a state that is more to your political and social liking, where it is more business and taxpayer-friendly.

Don't believe in allowing abortion - then I am sure there are a few states that, if allowed, would completely ban the procedure.

Want to own whatever firearm you want? Then I am sure there would be some states that would be happy to have you.

But unfortunately, while this would far more fit what our founding fathers had in mind, it is a far cry from today's reality.

When my brother drove a rig to the border and I rode along there was a border station roughly 40 miles inland (I don’t know why) with all sorts of electronic sensors and they picked up the dog and asked us who else was back there.

If you read the article, she gets a $600 check from the government each month for the child. That is what they are all living on now. I assume he also gets Medicaid and other benefits because he is profoundly disabled. If she had had him in Mexico he would be dead by now because Mexico does not make such provisions. The article doesn't say where the $600 comes from, but it has to be SSI or SS disability.

Her name is interesting, as well. Mexican movie star Silvia Pinal, the Marilyn Monroe of Mexico in the 60s, starred in a Luis Buñuel movie called "Viridiana," in which a novice nun about to take her vows makes a final visit to her lecherous uncle's house and the inevitable ensues. As a result, a lot of people in Mexico, including Silvia, named their female children Viridiana.

Yes they will. The POST for the last couple years has been subsidized by their Kaplan University, a for-profit online school. You know, the ones the leftists have been attacking recently.

She doesn’t have to go far. Only 30 miles from Phoenix, just south of I-8, there is a mexican controlled enclave where US citizens are warned to keep out.

She should be welcome there.

Here’s the real irony in this mess. While Mexico and Obamanation turns a blind eye to the dangers and deaths of US Citizens by Mexicans, Mexico is in New York demanding (and getting it!) protection for their citizens here against harassment!

[snip]Police are investigating another assault on a Hispanic man in Staten Island as a possible hate crime — and the Mexican government is now getting involved as well.

This is at least the sixth violent, ethnically-charged incident that has taken place in the neighborhood since April, and community leaders are urging residents to remain alert.

“We will act decisively in order to protect our citizens and will actively promote that those guilty of these vicious attacks are brought to justice expeditiously. We are working hand-in-hand with local authorities on all levels,” said Consul General of Mexico in New York, Ruben Beltran in an email to the Staten Island Advance.

The latest victim is a construction worker who has called the United States his home for the last five years, said Beltran. Police say they are looking for five suspects in this latest case, which is being investigated as a hate crime.

Beltran has asked the NYPD to “conduct a thorough investigation” of the alleged hate-crime cases. Beltran has offered “extensive cooperation and all the necessary support to ensure that justice is served.”

According to the Advance, this latest incident has promoted the Mexican Consulate to post personnel in Staten Island until further notice. This move is an effort to safeguard the rights of individuals and effectively assist and provide information to the Mexican residents of this area. (BUT they refuse to let us investigate the death of David Hartley in Mexico!!!)

Mexican officials have also created an information line that for immigrants to contact if they are afraid to contact authorities directly, the number is 1-800-724-7264.

In Colorado a LEGAL Mexican Immigrant lost their child when an ILLEGAL Mexican Immigrant drunkenly slammed into a ice cream shop at over 50mph.

The LEGAL Mexican Immigrant is endorsing that ever so racist Tom Tancredo for Govenor.
