Thanks ErnstStavroBlofeld.
"Russia is looking for a buyer of five battalions of S-300PMU-1 air defense systems ordered by Iran, which are worth $800 million, and Venezuela could become such a buyer," said Igor Korotchenko, head of a Moscow-based think tank on the international arms trade.

What are the chances of the new START treaty being ratified?

It won’t be passed. There are too many holes in it.

Hope you’re right. This is yet another good reason why the US shouldn’t.

......sell Iran up to 20,000 barrels of refined oil daily at market pric.......

This just in:

Venezuela to sell Bananas to Honduras
Guava Jelly to Cuba
Quacamole Dip to Mexico!

Amazingly, Iran produces almost no gasoline or diesel! They purchase refined products from Russia and Saudi Arabia.

If a Syrian refinery were to be dedicated to Venezuelan Oil, which BTW, is internationally speaking, sludgy crap, it could not handle other feedstocks without conversion. Venezuelan oil is refined in Trinidad, St. Croix, and the US mainland.

It is heavy sludgy crap with a lot of brine mixed in. I had worked on the controls for one refinery there a little over 10 years ago. That was the project where the Venezuelan techs were looking for escape routes to get away from Chavez.

They liked my comment that Hugo Chavez was not fit to shovel Simon Bolivar’s horsestable.

I see this as almost benign, except that Chavez is a threat to his neighbors.

One of his "neighbors" isn't a country: it's the Panama Canal.

Strategic threat to the U.S.

Thank you, Jimmy Carter.

If Chavez does threaten the Panama Canal, it’s time of ZeroBama to send in the 82nd AB or for Congress to impeach him.

Unless those systems are kept in AirCon storage they tend to rot in the tropics after 24 to 36 months.

Hugo could store them up in the Llano country. Climate's a lot more moderate up there.

...here we go, the Cuban Missile Crisis, Part II. Sheesh, where’s Curtis Lemay when you really need him?

Nah, we don't have the backbone to object... and once they're in Venesuela, they'll be in Cuba 6 months later. What will we be able to say then? Nothing.
