The Chinese wre difinately in N Korea when trouble started in the 50s. They were the first wave of invaders into the south. Millions of themwave after wave.
IIRC, they took over 1,000,000 KIA (by some estimates) for their trouble. Probably not anxious for a repeat performance. Besides, the ROK Army isn't the comic opera force that fell apart during the early part of the Korean War.
Attempt it again, and the PLA would likely find themselves living (briefly) in 'interesting times'.

China: 'No troops going to North Korea'(or are they?)
The PRC has way too many young unmarried males (who will never have a chance for marriage given the dearth of females) for safety. The government would probably enjoy having a reason to bleed off several million of them "defending" North Korea.
