'Saturday Night Live' demands to see Obama's birth certificate

The ongoing issue of President Obama's refusal to release his long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate got a comedic jolt in the arm last night during the opening sketch of "Saturday Night Live," which featured a call for Obama to finally make it public.

The NBC program premiered a skit in which Obama, portrayed by comedian Fred Armisen, was campaigning in Las Vegas this weekend for Sen. Harry Reid, played by Paul Brittain.

"Neither of us is very popular in this state," Reid confided in the president before addressing a crowd of supporters in the parody.

"I thought I was," responded Obama.

"It would really help if I could put some distance between us," muttered Reid, alluding to Obama's plummeting popularity and not wishing to be dragged down.

Trying to watch that made me remember why I turned off the tv years ago. That whole thing was stupid, IMHO.

They actually had one funny skit last night. A spoof of Brett Favre’s Wrangler Jeans commercial. It had him wearing “no fly” jeans that “let it all hang out” to make it easier for him to take pictures to send to hot network sideline hosts.

Good old World Nut Daily. Right on top of breaking developments in the birther drama, as usual.

I can’t believe they’re on the air. Their audience is probably young people too stoned or drunk to get up and find the remote control so they can change the channel. (Obama voters)

What’s the theory on why they did this? The standard leftist line is that Obama has already released the form. What does SNL gain by highlighting the fact he hasn’t?

I’m glad someone has the courage to get these hard-hitting comedy transcripts out to the public.

SNL has shown some independence, as in their skit on the mortgage crisis with Barney Frank.

Generally speaking, though, birth certificate jokes on big-time TV are directed at the birthers.

Asking to see the birth certificate is funny to a lot of people who assume that the question has been resolved.

There's enough ambiguity, though, that the joke could be aimed at Obama, and birthers can laugh along with it.

Thanks for that reply. I thought for a minute SNL was actually taking a pot shot at Obama for not releasing the LF. From what you said, the jab could be equally seen as aimed at the Birthers. That’s a little disappointing, but oh well.

"Do I look like Mrs. Obama? Then why are you trying to do sex to me like I was Mrs. Obama?"

Ahhh...classic stuff.

I see someone posting on here still listens to NPR.

The problem with the Obama Birth/Eligibility issue is that there are too many GOP Obama Supporters on the issue.

They want to remind their base leading up to the Nov. 2nd elections that the Tea Party are racist, right wingnuts and if in power will try to remove Obama. I hope we do!

Look, if the Republicans want to dominate government for the next 50 years all they need to do is legitimately pursue the Obama elegibility issue and expose the Democratic party complicit in fraud and high treason against the American people.

I’m not counting on the Republicans as long as Boehner, Steele and McConnell are in charge. However, I think eligibility will surface as an issue despite the Republicans. If the Dems’ loss in Nov is as historic as predicted a lot of fingers will be pointed and recriminations will fly. Somewhere along the way the LF BC will gain traction. Losers have a hard time commanding loyalty. 2011 should be a watershed year.

SNL is pure liberal poison. Even when they appear to be attacking the president it’s only done in the context of saving a pivotal face of washington democrat power - Majority Leader Reid. Everything SNL does is calculated to assist the liberal. Pure poison.

"I see someone posting on here still listens to NPR."

A nonsensical response, and wrong.

"The problem with the Obama Birth/Eligibility issue is that there are too many GOP Obama Supporters on the issue."

The problem with the issue is that it belongs in the same category as 9/11 Truthers, faked moon landings and Bigfoot. The problem is not with those of us trying to be rational.

There was a rally declaring Obama an imposter in D.C. right before the airing of this episode. Coincidence?

Didn’t expect to see this on SNL.. It’s not an issue worth building a movement around, but I still believe he’s hiding something. something BIG.

The problem with your misdirection is that the SNL skit tends to legitimize the eligibility issue by suggesting that Obama NEEDS to show a real LFBC to the public. Otherwise we’re left believing Reid and Obama are birthers, and that’s not really how the skit plays.
