Voter reports problem with ballot machine ( NC )
Sun Journal ^ | October 23, 2010 | Christine Smith

Posted on 10/24/2010 9:13:09 PM PDT by cutty

Man said he voted straight-party ticket and got opposite results.

A Craven County voter says he had a near miss at the polls on Thursday when an electronic voting machine completed his straight-party ticket for the opposite of what he intended.

Sam Laughinghouse of New Bern said he pushed the button to vote Republican in all races, but the voting machine screen displayed a ballot with all Democrats checked. He cleared the screen and tried again with the same result, he said. Then he asked for and received help from election staff.

“They pushed it twice and the same thing happened,” Laughinghouse said. “That was four times in a row. The fifth time they pushed it and the Republicans came up and I voted.”

This should go to Drudge and Fox. If true the machines at this site should be impounded and an investigation begun.

Here is some advice, don’t pull the “straight party” lever. I would never trust my vote to any kind of time-saving mechanism. Go down the ballot and individually select each race. That’s the only way to be sure.

This should be no surprise to anyone. The only surprise I would have is if someone voted Democrat and the results came up Republican. Then and only then could you knock me over with a feather.

Each morning every voting unit is calibrated as per manufacturer instructions by trained election rovers

The software was hijacked years ago by democrats. The clocks start ticking Nov 3rd when a stolen election is manifested to the world.

This is nonsense. You calibrate mechanical things or even electromechanical things where there is an analog component. The voting machines cannot be calibrated as they are solely digital, and are suppose to be programed with a certified program that cannot be changed at the polling place. Only the normal public uneducated in the functioning of these devices would be gullible enough to buy this argument. It is a false argument designed to shut people up who are complaining about what they see. The fact that the error is not completely repeatable means that either the software has been rigged, or that the hardware is unstable. It is kind of like a PC computer that runs good for awhile and then keeps acting strange, and then maybe runs good for awhile again.

A voting machine is suppose to be far too stable and simple for that to happen. So you either have voting machines that actually are unstable or you have software that is designed to randomly reverse the votes. How many people are saying that they voted straight democrat and had all there votes change to republicans? If the answer is none then the software is rigged. And I am sure that the software can be rigged so that the voter gets no visual indication that there votes did apply as they directed.

It may be true that the machine registers that keep track of the votes can be zeroed, but you sure would not want that going on after the voting had started. Switching to these machines has ensured that the vote can be rigged.

Remember that the slot machines you see in Las Vegas are not really as random as you think. They can be programmed to yield a given outcome over time. For example, over time, they might be set to return 97.44% to the player (but guarantee 2.56% to the house.) Thus is it not out of the question that a machine can be programmed to deliver, say, 53.44% of the vote to the Democratic candidate regardless of how the lever is pulled by the user.

Now I know that slot machines and voter machines are two totally difference devices, but at their heart, they both have microprocessors and yes, given access to the inside of the machine, it is theoretically possible for unscrupulous people to change their programming to ensure a given result.

We voted yesterday.
Fill in the circles by your candidate on a large card.
Then stick the card in a machine that draws the card in and counts the fact that your card is recorded.
But.. no indication as to who you voted for. Whether the machine can be programmed to count every 5th repub vote to the dim or some such, I don’t know.
I’m very suspicious of electronic voter fraud.

“...Fill in the circles by your candidate on a large card...

-
It is even worse than that here.
We tap our fingers on an electronic touch screen.
So even if the election results end up highly questionable,
there is NO paper trail to go back to to resolve the issue.

There has to be a paper trail. We voted like that several yrs. ago but we’ve changed to the card ballot.
Anything computer controlled can be manipulated and with no paper, completely unreliable.

Why when the machines go bonkers, it vote all democrats, and never republican?

“The voting machines cannot be calibrated as they are solely digital, and are suppose to be programed with a certified program that cannot be changed at the polling place.”

Well, if they are touch screen machines they might need to be calibrated. The digitizer must be calibrated so that when you touch a certain spot, the correct location is noted. Imagine you have two buttons, one says “straight Republican” and the other says “straight Rat”. Put them close together so that a small calibration error will cause a rat vote when the Republican box is touched near its edge.

I remember having to calibrate my Palm pilot touchscreen. If would give a target at each corner and you just tapped in the center of the target to calibrate.

BUT, a rat worker could simply tap a bit away from the target and an honest machine would then be purposely calibrated wrongly.

Sounds like they got greedy. If they'd programmed it to only do every other one, the guy might have thought he'd made some kind of mistake, and left without telling anyone. If half the pub votes go to dems, that's pretty good for the dems.

That’s illegal.

For good reason.

Imagine, the folks buying votes sith cigarettes/booze/whatever. Since the vote itself is private, they have no guarantee their mark made the 'right' vote. If you could provide them with proof, it would make their vote buying more certain.

True. I had not thought of that. And it is an unacceptable flaw in touch screen voting that the possibility even exists. I would say that separate electrical buttons should exist on a console, but then I don’t agree with the electronic voting machines at all. I believe that computerized voting machines should be banned.
