Your guess as to where he got his information is as good as mine. Exit question: In fairness to Maher, isn’t this shpiel basically the same thing that the Democrats have been saying for the past two months? I ask you.

Come, come now. Bill Maher is a comedian, not a politician, not a philosopher, not a serious thinker. He entertains, and he knows his audience. He is like the court jester of old, whose jokes (if he valued his head) were to entertain the king at the expense of any and everyone else. The “king” for Bill Maher is the (rich) liberal elite. He strokes their fantasies, especially the fantasy that they are smarter and more sophisticated than anyone else. He titillates them by using “bad” language in public, which they think is a sign of daring sophistication (go figure!).
Bill Maher is a joker and a joke. In his heart he knows this. And that is part of what makes him so unpleasant. To take him seriously is a serious mistake.
So, give him the attention he deserves.
