THE PINK RIBBON CAMPAIGN
Breakpoint ^ | 10/28/10 | Chuck Colson

Posted on 10/28/2010 12:02:00 PM PDT by epow

You’ve seen them everywhere: pink ribbons and wristbands to raise awareness about breast-cancer prevention. But before you donate, find out where the money is going. Susan G. Komen for the Cure, formerly known as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is a big promoter of the pink ribbon campaign. It raises money for breast cancer detection and research, and it awards grants to many worthwhile programs.

But as the Life Issues Institute points out, “In a counterproductive twist, Komen is also funding a group that actually promotes a possible cause of breast cancer.”

The cause? Abortion. The group? Planned Parenthood.

According to Life Issues Institute, in at least 22 states, Komen affiliates send donated money directly to Planned Parenthood--$3 million dollars over the last five years. This money frees up Planned Parenthood’s own funds for other purposes—such as promoting the morning after pill and performing abortions.

Komen for the Cure denies the abortion-breast cancer link. But many studies seem to confirm it. For instance, Dr. Joel Brind, an endocrinologist and founder of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, found that “choosing to end a pregnancy through an induced abortion, especially the first pregnancy as a teenager, significantly increases breast cancer risk.”

If Colson's claim is true, millions of anti-abortion Americans are uknowingly helping fund Planned Parenthood and it's highly profitable abortion mills by donating to an otherwise worthy cause. Planned Parenthood already gets some of our tax money via the Federal Government which pays Planned Parenthood millions every year for who knows what. One of my cousins died of breast cancer and now her sister is suffering with the same disease, so I have a keen interest in anything related to this awful disease. Although I am 100% in favor of funding breast cancer research, I am also 100% opposed to everything Planned Parenthood and it's deceased murderous, racist, Nazi-loving founder Margaret Sangster (sp?) stands for.

Nancy Brinker was on the Planned Parenthood advisory board in Dallas and she started the Susan G. Komen Foundation....Susan was her sister.

www.lifeissues.org has a whole article and show (Facing Life Head-On....look under programming and also resources) about this subject of Susan G. Komen and the connection to Planned Parenthood.

There is an alternative group called www.BCPInstitute.org. They do not give money to Planned Parenthood. I heard of two other groups that are helpful to this cause.

One does NOT have to give to Susan G. Komen to support breast cancer research.

“Pink” is the new “Green” commerce.

Buy the ribbon, line the coffers.

Every time I think of breast cancer, or ANY cancer, I think of this:

They will be getting none of my money. I consciously avoid “pink” products.

Personally, I admire the strength that these Pink Ribbon folks show in their battle with Pro-Breast Cancer activists.

I will continue to support them, as I believe they do more good for cancer victims and research than they do bad.

We were recently on a Holland America cruise and they actively promote Susan G. Komen for the Cure onboard their ships.

Holland America is slowly coming around to realize that most of its passengers are not leftist radicals.

Holland America has cancelled their contract with CNN and beginning next year, they will have Fox News instead.

Now we need to get Holland America to stop promoting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. There are better alternatives.

Never mind whether there is a scientific link or not, what does PP have to do with cancer research? Nothing as far as I know.

I have been waging a one-consumer campaign against this foundation for their support of Planned Parenthood. The most recent incident was a call to Boar’s Head (deli meats, et al). At the local grocery, there is a sign that joyfully proclaims they support SGK.

When I called, they transferred me a few times until I got “the right person to talk to about that.” This person said that SGK’s support for Planned Parenthood was only to fund mamograms and therefore didn’t support abortions. No matter how many times I explained that support for one area frees up their own dollars for another area, she kept arguing. In the end, as she hung up, I told her it was goodbye to Boar’s Head for me.

I’ll miss it too.

And there must be better groups to fund mammograms if that’s all Boar’s Head wants to focus on.

I don’t support them because not only do they fund PP but they also fund embroionic stem cell research. Out of all cancers breast cancer is one of the most survivable and others need funding much worse whcih are more often times fatal.

My maternal grandmother and maternal aunt both died from bc. Grandma died of her second round with it at 69, a couple of years after my aunt died at 47. My family does not support Komen. When my aunt was in the acceptance stage of grief, she frequently criticized Komen and the pink propaganda. This was back in the late 90’s when there wasn't as much free-flowing Internet info, and I know now that she would have been against Komen for this link. She couldn't stand them because of their pink crusade. She said the pink desensitizes the issues; cancer isn't pink it's painful and deadly. Wrapping pink scarf around her bald head did not make her feel feminine.

I imagine all the women that have died from breast cancer and their families would disagree. TNBC does not have that good of a survival rate.

It’s true, just google it.

I don’t buy pink ribboned items that say they go to the Komen foundation.

My Quilt Guild makes a queen sized quilt we ‘raffle’ off each year and we made sure the $1,000 we raise goes the National Breast Cancer Research org. Which does not give our $$ to PP.
