Latinos souring on illegal immigration

A new study shows Latinos have soured considerably on illegal immigration in the last three years.

**SNIP**

"The Minutemen stood up six years ago and brought the awareness level to the American people," he said. "It is now at an apex where ... enough people have had their American dream stolen (by illegal immigrants)."

The head of a center that provides legal and other assistance to immigrants disagreed.

Emilio Amaya, executive director of the San Bernardino Community Resource Center, said the growing negative attitudes are an understandable but flawed response to a faltering economy.

"In these difficult financial times, even immigrants see themselves competing against new immigrants," Amaya said. "(But) they don't really compete because most people, older immigrants, they already have different (job) skills."

Amaya said illegal immigrants should be fined and "sent to the back of the line," matching the opinion of 53 percent of Latinos. The Pew survey found 13 percent of Latinos advocate deportation, while 28 percent said illegal immigrants should not be punished.

If they’re not deported, they’re still competing.

You would think legal immigrants regardless of their birth countries would hate illegals. The former had to bust their rear ends to become citizens and gets stuck with part of the bill to pay for the costs of the latter.

I live in an area where the majority of Hispanics are descendents of the Spanish conquistadors who passed this way many, many moons ago. They have no love for illegal aliens and want them out. As unPC as I am, I get embarrassed sometimes listening to them talk about illegals.

Well, we do have 53 miles of fence at a cost of something over a billion dollars.

While our government officials whine about Wall Street and big business being evil. They have become the worst offenders. Our government is full of waste, fraud, and abuse. At least with big business and Wall Street, we don't have to participate or buy what they our selling. Our government, on the other hand, forces us to participate at whatever amount they say we are going to pay and for whatever reason.

This was pre-TV. Some a*s will chime in about my loathing of TV.

Just look what TV did for the left with Vietnam and Kent State. We now know there were shots or firecrackers before the shooting started at Kent State. The left Cronkite et al sold our troops out in Nam.

TV is all propaganda by the tiny minded idiots love it like alkies and booze.

Why is it assumed that because one is American Latino one would be sympathetic to modern day Hispanic illegals...?

There were Latinos in this republic centuries before this was a republic, or any Anglo/Saxon whiteye killed a “Native” anywhere on this continent.

On the one hand are the Latinos who worked hard, did everything right, and earned the right to immigrate here with their families.

On the other are those who sneak across the border, work under the table without paying taxes, contribute as perpetrators or victims to human trafficking (which is only a modern term for “slavery”), or have their anchor babies so they can stay and get all kinds of government handouts.

By what insanity should the first group regard the second group as having the same right to be here?

Sorry, but the leftist belief that all people of a certain ethnicity should automatically think and act exactly the same way is ludicrous. As is the belief that all immigrants are exactly alike and equal.

"In these difficult financial times, even immigrants see themselves competing against new immigrants," Amaya said.

No, dude, that's illegal immigrants, not new immigrants.

Amaya said illegal immigrants should be fined and "sent to the back of the line,"

Apparently, when they let this guy keep talking, he finally gets around to an acceptable (to me at least) solution to the problem.

"You would think legal immigrants regardless of their birth countries would hate illegals."

Many of them do...suffice it to say my naturalized/US citizen wife's comments about this issue consist of little more than a string of four letter words. Oh, and not surprisingly, her home country really doesn't get too worked up about rounding up their illegals.

Don’t forget how the evil SOB Ted Kennedy changed the ethnic makeup of America via the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965

(Hart-Celler Act, INS, Act of 1965, Pub.L. 89-236) abolished the national-origin quotas that had been in place in the United States since the Immigration Act of 1924. It was proposed by Emanuel Celler, co-sponsored by Philip Hart and heavily supported by United States Senator Ted Kennedy.[1]

An annual limitation of 170,000 visas was established for immigrants from Eastern Hemisphere countries with no more than 20,000 per country. By 1968, the annual limitation from the Western Hemisphere was set at 120,000 immigrants, with visas available on a first-come, first-served basis. However, the number of family reunification visas was unlimited, and it is only now that there are any country-origin quotas for spouses of US citizens, and numerical quotas for other relatives of US citizens.

In the Democratic-controlled Congress, the House of Representatives voted 326 to 69 (82.5%) in favor of the act while the Senate passed the bill by a vote of 76 to 18. Opposition mainly came from Southern legislators. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the legislation into law. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 became law on July 1, 1968. Along with the act of 1952, it serves as one of the parts of the United States Code until this day.

During debate on the Senate floor, Kennedy, speaking of the effects of the act, said, “First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same.... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset.... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia.... In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think.... The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.”[2] The act’s supporters not only claimed the law would not change America’s ethnic makeup, but that such a change was not desirable.[1]

By equalizing immigration policies, the Act resulted in a flood of new immigration from non-European nations that changed the ethnic make-up of the United States.[3] Immigration doubled between 1965 and 1970 and doubled again between 1970 and 1990.[1]

You must not be counting the Norse trips here and their battles with the "skraelings". Easily 400 years before the first Spaniards came along.

Bingo, when I lived in NM, the greatest insult you could call a native Hispanic was to call them Mexican American. They hated the Mexicans ...

My spouse, Brazillian born—

is quite disgusted with the silver platter and spoon provided illegals. She would prefer all criminal illegals make a hasty exit, north, south, or wherever.

JUST GET THE MOOCHERS OUT, DRAGGING THEM WHEN NEEDED.
