Mumbai: The US would be spending a whopping $200 million (Rs. 900 crore approx) per day on President Barack Obama's visit to the city.
"The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit," a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.
About 3,000 people including Secret Service agents, US government officials and journalists would accompany the President. Several officials from the White House and US security agencies are already here for the past one week with helicopters, a ship and high-end security instruments.

Is there anyone....ANYONE in this government of ours who is the least bit concerned about this? $200 million per day... This represents the annual gross revenues of many fortune 500 companies.

Ignoring the detail that the press are probably not spending that mush, so it's more than $66k a day for the Obama Regime, I have to wonder just how far over the top today's ruling class has gone.

That's approximately the same per-day cost as the Afghanistan war. That cannot be correct. But my heart tells me it's all too true.

The Maurya Sheraton on Sardar Patel Marg has already been turned into a virtual fortress with multiple rings of security. The hotel will be out of bounds for public during his stay there.
Around 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel will be deployed in and around the hotel which had earlier hosted US Presidents Bill Clinton in 2000 and George W Bush in 2006 besides US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last year.
Proximity security to Obama will be given by his guards while the other cordons will be manned by personnel from Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel.
Sharp shooters are being deployed on high-rises on the routes which Obama takes to reach his destinations, the official said.
Security agencies are also ensuring fool-proof security for US First Lady Michelle Obama as she is expected to have her own programme during the visit.
She is expected to visit some places and attend programmes in the city.

As part of security measures ahead of the US President’s visit in Mumbai, police have issued notices to boat operators asking them not to ferry vessels from the Gateway of India for three days beginning November 5. “No boat would ferry from the four jetties at the Gateway of India from November 5
for three days, owing to police orders. We were issued notices in this regard and were given security reasons for suspension of our boat services,” Iqbal Mukadam, General Secretary, Gateway Elephanta Jal-Vahatuk Sahakari Sanstha Maryadit said.
The orders have, however, upset boat operators as US President Barack Obama’s visit is coinciding with the most important business weekend.
