Dubya left him with a "win" if he could just stay the course.
It was US Army officers in the field who succeeded in wooing the various Sunni and Shia clans away from terrorism and rallying them to a single national Iraqi cause friendly to the US. My impression is that the largest contributions made by the State Department in Iraq was to rack up big room service fees and bar tabs in Green Zone hotels. If anyone can cite any substantive diplomatic contributions made by the State Department in Iraq, I’d be interested to learn about them.
IMHO, no withdrawal of US forces from Iraq can be considered prudent or sensible before a dramatic regime change in IRAN is achieved. 0bama’s decision to unilaterally announce an immediate future date for withdrawal of US forces from Iraq is, frankly speaking, foolish and impractical on an epic scale. It’s as if our international diplomacy is being handled by Moe, Larry, Curley ... and Barry.
