Inside White House, calls for shake-up

By: Glenn Thrush November 3, 2010 10:30 AM EDT

Some of the calls for a White House shake-up are now coming from inside the building.

Frustrated current and former West Wing staffers, speaking on condition of anonymity, told POLITICO they hoped Tuesday night’s humbling losses would persuade President Barack Obama to pursue a much more sweeping fix than just the “natural” post-election churn of personnel his administration has insisted will take place.

Many of those changes are already being seriously considered, among them replacing Political Director Patrick Gaspard with a former top aide to Rahm Emanuel; replacing Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, who is expected to move to Obama’s 2012 campaign, with Legislative Affairs Director Phil Schiliro; and possibly giving White House energy czar Carol Browner expanded policy responsibilities.

But if Obama’s critics are focusing on his agenda and messaging, many on his own team are urging him to address what they see as a major organizational flaw: an amorphous, ill-defined chain of command in the West Wing that concentrates too much power in too few hands, hampering efficiency, accountability and communication.

“If there’s still only five, 10 people making decisions, then we haven’t learned our lesson from Tuesday,” said one aide, who believes the problem starts with Obama’s insistence on giving his senior advisers, Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod, broadly sketched responsibilities.

But the issue isn’t confined to the upper levels. Several Obama insiders pointed to a surplus of West Wingers who spin out ideas by the bushel — and a shortage of seasoned middle managers to execute and sell them.

“They’ve been here for two years; they need a more grown-up system,” one former administration official said. “They’ve gone too horizontal.”

No matter how many times they rearrange the people, American will not accept socialism.

They are still lying about what they want. (Socialism)

They still think they can implement sociaklism if they have to thright people to do it.

For the ideological inflexibles that now occupy the White House, compromise is not possible. There are only two options for the near future: gridlock, or resignation. If the remaining Democrats on Capitol Hill had any gumption, they would, like the Republican minority in 1974, march down Pennsylvania Avenue and demand that the President representing their party resign.

Obama has become Nixon redux.

His trip to India next week, with his entourage and sycophants in tow, is the prelude to setting up of a government in exile.

Make it so.

If they can steal an election for Reid in Nevada, they can steal another one for Obama in 2012. Notice the article says Jim Messina will move on to O's 2012 campaign.

Made me want to vomit to read that, knowing that he will run again & win.

Any progress that is made by our House majority, HE will take credit for in 2012 & the sheeple will adore him once again & put him back in for another 4 years.

Alot of us won't be around to see that, once the Deathcare kicks in, so why worry about it!

“I’m not sure [Obama] gets it yet,” said one person close to the president.

...and he never will. Narcissists can't "get" that their actions and attitudes are the problem. It's beyond their ability to contemplate.

If he tries to set up his own government in India, he will likely end up shot. The governments there don’t fool around when it comes to others setting up their own rival factions and for Obama to try to set up his own ‘government in exile’ would likely result in a sticky diplomatic situtation wiht the legitimate US government. Knowing Eastern pragmatism, Obama and his loony ‘court’ would be rounded up and shot.

Am I the only one who thinks this?

This doesn’t bode well....Obama is getting ready to push Cap n Trade through the regulatory train. The pubs need to bring Browner to the investigation table right off the bat. She needs to be stopped ASAP....along with Cass Sustein.

He’s not going to set up a “government in exile.” As a narcissist, he’s going to petulantly “stay away” for a week or so. Then he will come home expecting that all us peasants will fall to the ground and praise Allah that his True Prophet has returned to save us.

Or so he thinks...

if he comes back, he’ll return to a place that has rejected him wholesale. He won’t be able to cope seeing someone else in the White House. He might get a fabulous career on Hollywood though, the land of fruits/nuts/flakes. He’ll be safe there, in the fringes with the rest of the deviants.

I wonder what it will be like for him, facing Congress and the nation during his State of the Union speech. Ratings will be massive for watching this. He’ll have to explain himself, he’ll have to explain in detail his plans/solutions (haha), and then all in front of a hostile nation and Congress.
