McDonald's slams San Francisco ban on Happy Meals

Fast food giant McDonald's said Wednesday it was "extremely disappointed" at a ruling by San Francisco authorities banning high-calorie Happy Meals, which entice children to eat with free toys.

The response came after the Californian city's board of supervisors voted to forbid restaurants from giving gifts with meals that contain too much fat and sugar.

"We are extremely disappointed with this decision. It?s not what our customers want, nor is it something they asked for," said McDonald's spokeswoman Danya Proud.

Happy Meals, which typically come in a colorful cardboard box packed with a burger, a drink, fries and desert, are popular with hard-pressed parents as well as children, she said.

"Public opinion continues to be overwhelmingly against this misguided legislation. Parents tell us it's their right and responsibility, not the government's, to ... to choose what?s right for their children."

Leave it to the warped people of San Fransicko to decide that food is dangerous and should not be placed in ones' mouth...

LOL - shall we compare mortality rates?

My solution
Include a scratch off game piece in each happy meal.
The prize - a free toy...
100% winning chance .
Stuff it San Francisco....

I love the free meal with purchase of toy. :D

Another option is to charge 25 or 50 cents extra if they want the toy. Then it is not “free”. HA HA!

McDonalds and others in Big Fast Food are making a big mistake if they think they can appease the Billion dollar racket of “Public Health”.

In a couple of decades, the racketeers will incrementally torture them. They’ll end up like Big Tobacco. (still profitable but a burger will cost $25 after taxes and litigation costs).

One man can bugger another man in the arse, in a city approved steam bath... but a child cannot legally purchase a McDonald's Happy Meal. california is damned to hell... good riddance... I hope all our our Conservative family gets out of there quickly.

What happens if/when the McDonalds refuses to comply? What if the people DEMAND them contrary to this edict?

Is McDonald going to bend over and play dead on this?

If they do, I'll never patronize them again, ever.

(....not that I do, anyhow).

This is patently unConstitutional.

It's colossally stupid, sure, but I don't know what part of the U.S. or California Constitutions it violates.

I would love to see McDonalds announce the closure of all McDonalds in the San Francisco area. Empty the stock, lock the doors and board them up. Then hang a huge sign where the numbers of burgers served sign is saying, “No more burgers served, thanks to your Big government”

There would be such a public outcry, like you never heard.
