Difficult thoughts on the election

Posted on 11/04/2010 10:52:00 AM PDT by Conservative_Pragmatist

Hey gang-

I am new here. I was looking for Conservative boards to post on during the election and they just weren’t very good. Someone told me about this site so I figured I’d check it out.

I felt compelled to log-up after the Republicans took massive control of the US House this election.

Like most of you I was over-joyed when the Democrats got swept out of Congress. But we have seen how the tea leaves (pun intended) change. The last two cycles the Republicans got waxed, we were losing seats in strong Conservative areas. That cycle is now turned. We’ve picked up key seats in more Liberal areas like Mass, Illinois, Wisconsin, and here in Virginia a very popular Democrat (Boucher) was defeated. Never thought I’d see that, so the message is loud and clear, this nation DOES NOT want big government.

However, it’s easy to think the electorate in the center could swing right back to the other side if the Republicans fail to deliver. Or get this? Even if the Republicans DO deliver!

Personally, I think this election for the Republicans was great. We dominate the house so no far-left initiatives have any chance of ever making it to law. And I was sorta glad we didn’t get the Senate, because now the Democrats still have some culpability and Obama can’t play against the Republican congress in 2012. We are also close enough that if we win the White House in 2012, we could possibly send a complete majority Republican Senate with that person.

So that is GREAT news.

However, WHAT IF Obama decides to compromise with the Republicans? Remember Clinton compromised with the Republicans after 1994 and got some good things done on trade, welfare and the economy took off as well. Clinton was then re-elected as a more popular candidate than when he won in 1992.

Point is, if Clinton had not worked with the Republicans then maybe the country struggles longer and we beat him in 1996, but that wasn’t what was best for our country.

So the struggle I am having is this. Can we afford NOT to work with a Democrat President if it means we can help the USA? If he works WITH our guys, moves to the center, limits government spending and frees up the market and that helps our nation, then it stands a chance he could get re-elected, something I don’t want to see.

But…helping our country now, and the US Republicans now have a chance to help our nation may actually turn out to help the Democrat President.

While I was popping champagne the other night, I am now left with these thoughts and don’t know what to think. Again…for me it’s country first.

We can not afford to work with the dems. They are destroying this country. If you are a real conservative you would know that or are you just another troll? UHM.

This will never happen. The lies, the back stabbing of the Democratic party to American people is a done deal they can’t take it back. We learn from our mistakes.
If anything, a new party will emerge and I don’t think that’s a chance the republicans want to take.

BTW...Welcome aboard! ;)

I wasn’t popping champagne the other night. It was good news but he is still in charge.

CA, NY, OR, WA state and a few others are pretty much lost causes. If their populace does not get it now - they never will.

The idea that the economy is going to get better is delusional. People with money are sitting on it until Obama is gone. No one with an IQ above 50 will invest in the USA or build a factory here. Obama is going down the Mugabe/Zimbabwe path while the idiots watch TV and ball games.

Until he is gone - nothing will improve. People with money will sit on it or make sure it is outside the united states.

Gold and silver stocks are up 5 to 10% today.

While we welcome new-commers, understand that we also suffer from trolls and gremlins who are malicious posters trying to provoke.

A suggestion to assist your bona-fides would be to populate your personal page so that the rest of us get a chance to know you. It also gives us some assurance that you are not a ‘troll’.

The personal page is free-form and you can click on other FReeper’s ID to see theirs and get ideas.

First, welcome to FR. Next, if this is your fear, sleep well at night. To begin with, Obama has already stated he has no intention of working with the GOP. He's made a few sops toward accommodation, but nothing substantive, nor will there be anything substantive. The man is a socialist ideologue and believes he's right and the GOP is wrong. He still believes the programs he's put in place with his congressional cohorts are good. That's not going to change.

Thus, he will never move toward the center. His purpose is not to govern as president but to completely transform the US into a socialist nation. And there's no way the GOP can work with that.

So, sleep well. It ain't gonna happen.

The key issue is spending. Trillion dollar deficits are not sustainable. We need to work with Obama to identify meaninful areas where the budget can be cut.

Now, when Obama talks about "cutting the budget" he almost always means "investing in education, healthcare, roads and bridges, and green technology). That's not cutting the budget. We can't do that anymore.

Republicans have to be willing to make cuts in some areas that we like. Democrats have to be willing to make cuts in areas that they like. If both parties will compromise and make those cuts, then the country will be better off.

But if Obama won't agree on cuts, then I see no point in talking to him. Gridlock, Baby!

An American person would not write - “US Republicans.”

Why would someone write that? It is not a typo and I make lots of typos.

You heard Barry and Harry yesterday. Same idea of “compromise” as always. Agree with me and I might throw you a crumb . . . or not. Say what you will about him and I’ve said plenty, Bill Clinton is the most skilled and smartest politician I’ve seen. But Barry is too stupid and too arrogant to pull off what Clinton did after 1994.

However, WHAT IF Obama decides to compromise with the Republicans?

Compromise with we backwoods, moronic, racist, bible-toting, gun loving, redneck extremists?

Don't bet on it!

barry can not compromise with Republicans because he is not wrong in his ideas (according to him). I read a quote where he said he would compromise with the exception of health care, taxes and cap’n trade.
He will not compromise, I do not care what he says today.

I can understand your argument--but you're missing a major piece of the puzzle.

Narcissism will not allow zer0 to compromise too much. Sure, he might--on unimportant issues. But don't look for a shift to the center.

He just can't push himself that direction.
