New Orleans police are asking the public to help find a man who investigators believe is responsible for the Oct. 31 stabbing death in the French Quarter of Ryan Lekosky -- a 23-year-old Marine sergeant from Metairie.

The suspect has a dark complexion with a small to medium build, according to police. He may be in his mid-30s and stands about 5 feet, 8 inches tall.

When the stabbing occurred Sunday at 3:38 a.m. at Dauphine and Iberville streets, the suspect was wearing gold-framed, aviator-styled sunglasses with dark lenses. He may have had a diamond stud in each ear, police said. He was wearing blue jeans with a short-sleeved, button-down, peach, shirt with a collar. On his feet were light-colored alligator boots.

He was driving a black four-door SUV, officer Garry Flot said.

Flot provided the following account of the incident:

The suspect was driving on Dauphine Street. He was yelling. He was harassing pedestrians. At Dauphine and Iberville, he got out of his car seat and started a verbal fight with the Marine. The situation escalated.

"The victim and perpetrator became physical," according to a news release from Flot.

"During the physical encounter, the subject stabbed the victim with an unknown sharp object," according to Flot. "During the confrontation the perpetrator was scratched and hit about the face and upper torso."

The suspect may have scratches or bruises along his face, neck and torso, police said.

The suspect fled along Dauphine. He damaged the passenger-side window of his SUV when the SUV hit another vehicle. He continued on Canal Street.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call Detective Andrew Packer at 504.658.5300. Or he or she may call Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or toll-free at 1.877.903.7867. Callers do not have to give their names or testify and >

"Callers do not have to give their names or testify and can earn as much as $2,500 for tips that lead to an indictment."

We need to get the reward up much higher. I will work on this.

I’ve been working on this for a week. Do you have any connections in New Orleans?

Ryan is going to be buried tomorrow in Corpus Christi. I’ve contacted the Patriot Guard, and they escorted his body to the funeral home today. What a wonderful group they are. They will also be there tomorrow.

If anyone has a south Texas ping list, please inform those who live in that area in case they might choose to attend the service.

Yes. They will get this guy. Pity the charge will only be a second degree homicide. But that is mandatory life without benefits, and they will get him.

I wonder if the hospital was able to test for DNA under his fingernails. Surely there’s a file on the MURDERER. The DNA would have been a great help in identifying who did this.

The clothes, the behavior, the vehicle and the weapon are way, way out of the norm. This is a guy who is eccentric and out of control even by criminal standards, and one or more of his friends will tip the police just to get him out of their own lives.

The perpetrator is also acting out as well as an extrovert. He will boast about this crime.

They will get this guy. Just a matter of time.

DNA evidence might help for conviction, but probably not for solving the crime.

Why not? If the DNA was taken and tested, and it matched DNA of some lowlife who’s been brought in many times before...? Seriously, don’t they keep stuff like that on file?

What a BS description. A dark complexion? Gee, ya think?

I think there were some initiatives to start such a data bank about eight years ago, but I honestly don’t know how far that went. DNA tests from certified labs can get quite expensive, and matching the results takes time and effort - and expense.

This guy is almost certainly from the area, and LOTS of records and evidence were lost in the flooding after Katrina, not only in Orleans but also in surrounding parishes. What you are thinking might be possible, but would be a long shot given the time frame and the area.

Most of these guys bust themselves, as they cannot resist bragging about their squalid deeds. Believe it or not, they think they are larger than life, heroic figures. They boast accordingly.

His mouth or his cowboy boots will most likely break the case.
