Michael Reagan on the 2012 contenders
GOP12 ^ | 11/10./10 | staff

Posted on 11/11/2010 7:23:46 PM PST by pissant

A candid Michael Reagan dished on each of the main '12 contenders on Fox this afternoon.

On whether Sarah Palin can win a general:

"She has a shot? No. She is too polarizing. Can she raise money for the party? Can she get behind people and help them? Yes.

But she's too polarizing to be elected the President of the United States of America, and by the way, I'll hear about that on my Facebook page."

On Rick Perry:

"Look at the Governor of Texas -- Rick Perry. Probably the most Reaganesque of everybody out there. Has a new book out there, Fed Up.

Would love to be the President of the United States of America. Most Reaganesque."

On Mitt Romney:

"What Mitt Romney has to do is find charisma. He's got the Meg Whitman problem -- can't relate to anybody making less than $1 million/year.

If he wants to get the nomination, he's going to have to learn to relate to the people in Iowa and across this country."

On Jeb Bush:

"Most qualified Republican on the planet is Jeb Bush.... the problem is: his last name is Bush; not Reagan."

On Mike Huckabee:

"Very good, but with Mike Huckabee, he's got the problem with the police officers in Seattle. I know it wasn't his fault, but he'll be blamed for it. He's going to have a problem with that.

But I will tell you this: if you want to be the President of the United States and get the nomination, you need to have the passion of a Michael Huckabee.

Truly the passion. Right now a lot of those who would like to be President don't have passion in their voice.

They're not believable when they speak.

No to Huckabee. He pardoned a cop killer. And I hate his whole big government “Oh I used to be fat so let’s save the children” schtick. It scares me that this guy is leading in polls. He’s almost as big of a RINO as Romney.

Establishment Republicans... SCREW ‘EM ALL! They are scared to death of one principled woman with the courage to stand against them and their entrenched power. Screw the establishment party hacks... They are the reason this country is floundering. Just because Mike Reagan has his father’s name name, does not hold that he can carry his father’s torch.

"From Public Policy Polling: 56% of West Virginians say they will vote for the Republican over Obama in 2 years — 34% are for Obama.

That’s a reversal of the 59% Democrat/34% Republican registration in the state. Among Republican candidates the preferences are: Sarah Palin 25% Mike Huckabee 22% Mitt Romney 15% Newt Gingrich 15% Everyone else is under 2% Count me in the 23% who said someone other than those 4 or is undecided.

By the way, 37% of Democrats say they will vote for the Republican in 2012."

No Huckabee, no Jeb, and no McCain. Huckabee has too many negatives that can be used against him. Same with Jeb, starting with a dimwit wife and his mishandling of Terri Schiavo. I never expected the GOP to nominate McCain in ‘08 - the weakest of all candidates. Now I would not surprised if they nominate him again.

Rick Perry has a “governor of Texas” problem.
That will work against him, for the same reason that Jeb Bush’s name works against him.

Reagan is absolutely right about Palin.
She would make an excellent RNC chairman, but a lousy presidential candidate.

I think Angle, O’Donnell and Miller have hurt Palin.
If not, then Conservatives have learned the wrong lessons of 2010.

These failed Palin-backed Tea Party candidates should serve as a reminder of how hard it is for this type of candidate to win a state-wide race, even in a political climate which is very responsive to their brand of politics. We can’t afford a candidate Palin in states like Nevada and Colorado, which we must carry to win.

These losses should remind us that as much as Americans may be rejecting 0bama, they aren’t going to sweep in just anyone to replace him automatically.

My #1 argument against Palin has always been that she almost ensures another 4 years of 0bama, which would be a tragedy beyond belief. Any Republican elected will sign an 0bamaCare repeal. But 0bama won’t. We must win 2012 or all is lost.
This is no time to take a longshot risk on Palin.
We’re not voting for our favorite celebrity. We’re voting to end 0bama’s reign of terror.

Curious the way he pulls his punches with the Huckster and the Mittster, and Rickster the semi-RINO, but doesn’t hestitate to whack Sarah right over the head.

Has he maybe bought into the meme that NO ONE can ever be another Reagan?

Of those mentioned, Sarah comes closest. Strong, a person with strong moral convictions based on Christian principles, and unwilling to let her aides talk her into giving up those convictions. And both of the a lot smarter than the elite give them credit for.

She's too "polarizing" because she speaks her mind and the lamestream media has issued their equivalent of jihad against her. When she can get through to the people in person or in appearances she demonstrates that she's mainstream heartland America.

Unfortunately, I don't know how she can overcome that -- the media is certainly not going to let up their hate speech on her.

I don’t disagree. But like I said, they are all phony conservatives. Unfortunately, anyone of them with any experience is going to have a record that is not conservative. We just came out of a period of liberal control, and anyone who was part of it can’t claim conservative credentials. I would like to see someone new, but realistically it’s not going to happen in time for 2012.

Of the potential presidential candidates, no one has done a more effective job at conveying the conservative message than Governor Palin.

No one has repeatedly smacked down the Obama administration and called them out than Sarah.
No one has raised more money or helped other Republican candidates than Sarah.
No one has battled corruption within her own party than Sarah.

Sarah has repeatedly said that if someone comes along and makes a more effective case for leading the nation, then she will step aside and support that person. She does NOT spend her waking hour fantasizing over the presidency. So far, I ain't seeing anyone (Senators, Congressmen, and 2008 retreads excluded, we need a Governor) make that case.

Gov. Mike Rounds of SD, are you listening?

I see "polarization" as a good thing. People know where she stands, there are no gray areas, and she's not going to lose anyone who already supports her. All she has to do is make her case to those who have doubts about her in the middle. She will never get the leftist vote so she doesn't even compromise or pander to them. That's the beauty of being polarizing. In the end, people can then decide if they want freedom or socialism, instead of blurring the lines and chasing after this pretend center.

You're about as screwed up as the liberals. Sarah Palin is the only one who has the balls to stand toe to toe against Obama and expose him to the American people for what he is. Romney doesn't have that kind of courage and neither does Huckabee, or anyone else for that matter. You're just another wimp. like Michael Reagan who would rather just dismiss her offhand.
