...We also need to focus on developing innovative technologies that produce energy without generating any CO2 emissions at all. People often present two timeframes that we should have as goals for CO2 reduction -- 30% (off of some baseline) by 2020 and 80% by 2050. I believe the key one to achieve is 80% by 2050... If addressing climate change only requires us to get to the 2020 goal, then efficiency would be the key thing. ...the amount of CO2 avoided by these kinds of modest reduction efforts will not be the key to what happens with climate change in the long run... If CO2 reduction is important, we need to make it clear to people what really matters -- getting close to zero... ...Slowing the growth of CO2 ppm is of course a good thing... We should at the least fix market barriers and dysfunctions that prevent these gains from being realized. That's just being smart. But it's not enough to slow the growth of CO2 given the strength of demand driven by the poor who need to get access energy. No amount of insulation will get us there; only innovating our way to what is essentially zero carbon energy technology will do it. If we focus on just efficiency to the exclusion of innovation, or imagine that we can worry about efficiency first and worry about energy innovation later, we won't get there. The world is distracted from what counts on this issue in a big way.

C02 has always naturally occurred here. What did they do about it 2,000,000,000 or so years ago when there was MORE OF IT? Imagine the massive die-offs and other problems that must have occurred when the ‘toxin’ Oxygen became more prevalent, with plant and animal species that depended on a atmosphere saturated with C02.

I know none of this matters, or is directly related to what Bill said. It’s just that our planet has changed drastically ever since it initially cooled and turned into something resembling what we know. Acting as if we can CHANGE it in some material way is just folly. What sucks is how they are willing to regulate our lives and extract wealth from us based on that foolish premise.

I’d like to find another planet to live on, or take a long vacation to while my fellow humans on Earth are so dammed stupid, they would actually buy into something like this.....

And, of course, that would diminish the O2 the photosynthesis of those plants produce which we humans require.

Wait a minute. Isn't Billy Gates a Malthusian who believes we need to drastically cut the population of the earth?

Taking out the plants and lowering the O2 levels would be one way to do that.

I say send all those who think that globull warming is caused by man to live in Antarctica and Greenland. Well, I don’t begrudge him his financial success, but he is a good example of the phenomenon that Tevya sings about in Fiddler On The Roof (If I Were a Rich Man: “When you’re rich they think you really know...”).

That Gates could write this piece in light of all we know about the global warming fraud is astonishing. Of course, he has demonstrated an inability to get beyong the bromides of his “experts” in his education philanthropy, too.

Correct.

But fair is fair: Gates really was a very bright guy.

He was in some ways like Steve Jobs, but without any of Jobs' vision, charisma, or ability to attract brilliant people with the sheer force of great ideas.

Gates thought he could BUY brilliant people with lots of money, and for a while he could. But brilliant people don't stay "bought" in an atmosphere run by the likes of Ballmer. Sadly, Microsoft these days is a hollow shell of what it was. I hope they survive long enough that I get to see the successor to WindowsNT.

I think people are noticing that too many of the advocates for using less are those with huge houses and a penchant for traveling the world by jetliner.
