It’s actually not quite so funny when it’s 9 degrees outside and the electric goes off. House has old windows that leak like a sieve with cold air.

I’m sure it’s not; the shut-downs on the computer would bother me. We have back-up heat here (propane/kerosene) but I would prefer a wood stove. Not to be.

True story. During a recent cold wave in Hawaii when it got down into the low 60’s home owners were turning on their stoves and opening their ovens to warm their dwelling. A lot of homes there just don’t have heating.

Thanks for the league link. I’ll join when I’m caught up. Just now getting over jet-lag; not too many trips left in this body.

About to go home for lunch and see if we ever got power back.

The hour it was off before I left this morning is more than the normal “rolling” timeframe.

Might have to put my cat in the fridge to keep her from freezing.

Be thankful, we just now got power back. Went home for lunch and it was...past chilly in the house.

While they’re speculating: I wonder if Sr’s neck muscles could have stabilized his head if they didn’t have to restrain the extra weight of the helmet?

Pardon my sadistic sarcasm, some of these things just irritate me.

Ugh - they have canceled the rolling blackouts for the time being so I’m working on the Shootout thread. I guess I better hurry :)

If you have a landline, next time you pass a flea market or garage sale, pick up an old dial or TT corded telephone so you have contact. I’ve got one specificly so I can call the power company to report an outage. Cordless phones and cells are nice, by they ain’t worth spit if the power’s out at your base or cell tower.

I’ll look and see, we don’t normally take pics of open spaces. Probably should because they are disappearing way to fast.

Got this from another thread re: Texas rolling blackouts:

“If you’ve been listening to KLBJ or other news, they explained the rolling blackouts this morning. 10% of available energy went offline.

Two major coal fired plants in N Texas had broken water lines. Then the backup natural gas plants had low pressure in the supply lines, that they could not be fired up.”

Probably doesn’t make you feel any warmer; when it gets below zero here we run the furnace, gas fireplace and a couple of space heaters. Monthly (combined) heating bill during the winter averages over $350.00 at our place. Power company (Pacific Power) just got a 13.4% increase in rates to pay for more green energy infastructure too.

We got the **** rolled over. Actually an outage rather than a roll. Power was off from 6:15 to 1:30 in half the town, although I had it in the office almost all day.

They fixed it today, smuggled in electricity from Mexico. Ain’t that sweet? Mexican gas generators producing the power Texas windmills can’t. So sweet it makes you gag.

Ah, don’t worry amigo it was still on at the super bowl site in Dallas...

Reading this a.m. of natural gas shortages in New Mexico and State of emergency there. Limited use in Texas, shortages in Arizona, etc. When are folks going to put 2 and 2 together and realize this is the summation of bad policy and idealogy??

How’s the ice there?

We’re fine this morning, just a bit icy everywhere. Have gas and electricity.

Heard there were some rumbles yesterday about Cowboy Stadium never experienced the rolling blackouts. Well duh, guess they don’t understand priorities eh? LOL
