Perry says consider military in Mexico

AUSTIN — GOP Gov. Rick Perry, who continues to insist he's not interested in the presidency, is nevertheless always ready to tell the federal government how to do a better job on such matters as border security — including indicating the U.S. should be open to sending military into Mexico to help fight the drug war.

Appearing on MSNBC on Thursday, Perry was asked, “Would you advocate military involvement in Mexico on the Mexico side of the border to help Mexico in this drug war?”

Perry answered: “I think we have to use every aspect of law enforcement that we have, including the military. I think you have the same situation as you had in Colombia. Obviously, Mexico has to approve any type of assistance that we can give them.

“But the fact of the matter is, these are people who are highly motivated with money. They are vicious. They are armed to the teeth. I want to see them defeated. And any means that we can to run these people off our border and to save Americans' lives we need to be engaged in.”

Perry has long called for more federally paid National Guard troops on the border and has cited the state's efforts to try to fill the void caused by what he describes as the failed federal effort on border security.

Thursday's answer reflected a difference in tone, though not in substance, from one he gave in an interview this summer with the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle, when he was asked whether the U.S. should consider sending the military into Mexico as it did in 1916 after border violence.

I am surprised he hasn't already sent the Texas Rangers across the border to stop this insanity.

An elite team of Texas Rangers have gone on 10 recon missions since last year. These teams were sent to the Texas Border...and since everyone’s lips are zipped on those missions...I suspect they did go into Mexico.

Why cant we send O’bama? He fixed America. Certainly he could fix Mexico also. Let’s send O’bama...even if it’s just for a few years. Let’s give him a chance. (And maybe we could finish the fence while he’s still on their side of it)!

Securing the border would be a better idea along with executing any illegals involved in this that are caught trying to cross or arrested inside. But it will never happen. Why should our men and women be sent to mexico to do what the Mexican government can’t or won’t do. These people are as vicious as Al Queda

Wow, so by wanting the US govt to do it’s job, Perry is somehow stepping over some line about telling the fedgov what to do, huh? Meanwhile, violence continues to bleed into Texas.

I hate to keep bringing up the 800 pound gorilla, but he just sits in the room laughing at us and eventually I feel frustrated:

HOW ABOUT WE STOP USING AND BUYING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF ILLEGAL DRUGS? THE FUEL THAT CAUSES THIS MADNESS IS MONEY - SENT BY US!

Sorry about the loud typing, but the solution is totally within our control and nobody says a word about it.

As a first step I’d be satisfied with something much less ambitious, like securing the border and keeping the drug war contained to Mexico.

I got this from a friend this morning and wanted to share..When I watched it the first thing I though was our borders are left open to all the terrorist and illegal Mexican that want to come over but our citizens are harassed and beaten by thugs that works for the government..Watch it folks this is just the beginning..Vote wisely in 2012 if we last that long..

I hope Rick Perry has plenty of security..Since Obama has left the borders open to his terrorist friends we all know there are plenty of these savages in this country

On the right track, but not quite. How about LEGALIZING ALL DRUGS. Drug use is part of human nature, and will never be stopped. That is why Prohibition did NOT work.

I hate listening to hypocrites who say they support our freedom and liberty, then support anti-freedom and anti-liberty legislation like making all drugs illegal. Same stupid logic Liberals use to try to ban guns.

“the obvious action that is needed is to once and for all CLOSE and SECURE the BORDER”

I agree. Also hitting a few targets of opportunity across the border would be acceptable, and I mean blowing them to smithereens with warplane-borne weapons like guided bombs and gatling guns.

Nothing against Mexico, but I don’t want to spend American lives to make life better in Mexico.

It's for our children /s

It seems so-called Republicans and liberals have something in common - doing everything for our children.

“How about LEGALIZING ALL DRUGS.”

Well, I’m quite sure I’m ready to go that far, but I will say this: Either stop the drug use or stop the illegality. As long as there is a HUGE demand for illegal drugs, there will be a war for the profits of supplying those illegal drugs.

Even stepped up enforcement and closing the boarder will only affect the price. The law of supply and demand will not be violated. If there is demand, there will be supply!
