Republican Renee Ellmers has unseated veteran Congressman Bob Etheridge, according to unofficial results of a recount in the tight race.

Etheridge, a seven-term Democrat, picked up six votes on Ellmers after voting results from 10 counties were tabulated a second time, but it was nowhere near enough to overcome her 1,489-vote lead following the Nov. 2 election.

Wow! Is there a chance that draft dodging Dave Price will lose his district? Also, is there any way the Left can block redistricting. How about redistricting the state house and state senate? Is there a possibility on redrawing lines making the current gains permanent?

One word- TOBACCO. Until his party decided to destroy the farmers and the product... but still not ban it cause they want the tax money. Dude drank a lot, and you may notice he’s had his nose broken at least once before. All else in his profile, Boy Scouts, church.. you’d think he would have switched parties by now. But not in the leftovers in NC who still vote yellow dog dem. They are learning though. Both houses of the state legislature went Republican- first time in some 150 plus years. Now for the crook governor.

Not with the new state legislature. the guv, a big time obama lib might try to veto, but Price could be re-drawn to separate him from his pals in Chapel Hill and Duke, etc— the lib aristocracy. Would have to overcome the “children in college” vote.

How does he get re-elected. Because the stupid people in this state (I am a native and live here) keep electing the same old pieces of crap time after time after time after time and can't realize their lives are being destroyed by the Democratic party in NC-—until this year. For the first time in over 100 years(let that sink in), I repeat 100 years the Republicans in NC have both the House and Senate. I am hoping that they do not inherit the arrogance of the former leaders in this state. The former governor is under investigation but he's a lawyer being investigated by lawyers so he'll get a pass—bet on it. The current governor is being investigated and hopefully the man that led the NC Senate will be next. The former speaker of the House was convicted and is finishing up his sentence and the former Agriculture secretary was convicted and sentenced. Maybe, just maybe, the Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Andy Griffith loving sheeple of this state finally have woken and we can close a $3 billion budget gap and make a law that all surplus monies have to be saved or returned to the taxpayers. We had 2, $1 billion surplus budgets that the Democrats in Raleigh decided would go on for ever so they spent the money, not on one time expenditures, but created new, ongoing expenditures that we can't afford now. I have just re-read Codevilla’s American Spectator article and every time I do, I am more and more convinced that he is absolutely 100% on target.

Andy Griffith is a calamity. Every time I see him on those TV commercials promoting OBAMACARE, I want to forget how old he is and kick his teeth in.

Thanks for explaining the situation in NC. There was a wave in this last election moving west to east from LA, MS, AL, GA and SC. Only one white Dem rep. was reelected from these states, John Barrow in the Savannah area. The wave stopped in NC.

Thanks for the map. I didn't know that went all the way to Fayetteville or Rocky Mount. Was that to get more black votes? (28%) I don't know much about North Carolina outside driving through and going to Charlotte and Statesville a couple of times. I looked at a quick map and saw it stick into Raleigh. It was an obvious Gerrymander.

I should add that I’m even more surprised that a Michigan transplant would win in the South. :)

That video where he assaulted a child, essentially, probably made the difference in addition to the beautiful one’s endorsement, of course. Thank G*D for ubiquitous video cameras and You Tube. Bear that in mind, Politicians!

You’re referring to David Price. Etheridge first won his seat in 1996 and just lost it, good riddance.

There aren't as many North Carolinians in North Carolina as you would think.

Watching the redistricting at the state level will be as interesting as the federal level in NC. There is an opportunity for the GOP to team up with black democrats to create a lot more black & GOP seats, leaving the Price-Etheridge types unelectable. I wonder if Mel Watt will survive?

The #1 mama grizzly Sarah Palin put Ellmers over the top with her late endorsement.

Keep thinking that, but the truth is my numerous donations turned the tide.

Darren, the idea was precisely to gather as much urban black vote as possible in what was a semi-rural district. The area is slowly urbanizing (my own county is a throwback, in some regards) but the area remains firmly conservative. Not doctrinaire, but nobody likes Obamacare, or cap and trade or business takeovers (especially). Etheridge used to hedge his bets and sensibly voted about 60% Dem, thus keeping the frog-water tepid. The last two years he turned the heat up full. Everybody noticed. He only got the urban, unionized and government vote.

You can tell exactly how big that fraction is by how close the vote was. When it’s a Federal holiday (which most working people here don’t get), the roads basically empty because all the teachers, bankers and gov’t types get to stay home. He played to that constituency and it wasn’t enough thank God. Now to make the thing at least a little square, cut exorbitant state spending, fire off about 20% of the govt workers and cut taxes. Those by themselves would lock in Pubbie govt around here for a good long time. Now that the folks have tasted toss-the-bums out, they’re not no loath to vote against Dems. That could turn into a habit.
