I will not vote for just any republican. I am sick and tired of voting for the lesser of 2 evils. Just who would you support since you think yours are the only opinions that should matter?
Glad to see you live in Maryland. Stay there. Your vote doesnt count. And it shouldnt. Your comment evinces too much MSLSD and CNN, Junior, and not enough serious thought. Get a clue.
Since you value deference to old age, am I to believe you've deferred to Mrs. Bush? Your condescending attitude aside, I'm one of the youngest people on FR, I can count on one hand the members I've reckoned to be under 40. I'm the one who has to live with the consequences of Palin being nominated and Obama subsequently being reelected. At least half the members of this site will be dead in 20 years but I'll only be 45 and have to deal with the onerous consequences of this choice. It's not going to get any easier for conservatives, pretty much every demographic is going against them, specifically the growth of the Hispanic population. I'm the only Hispanic conservative in my age group I know, I honestly don't see a change happening in that anytime soon so while you can afford to run out the clock I can't.
"Honestly I dont know who I will support, I despise Romney and Gingrich. I dont hate Huckabee but I think hes way too socialist. Ill take a look at Thune and Pawlenty or maybe someone else, I dont know the full field yet. Ill likely hold my nose and vote for Palin in the primary if it really comes down to an odious choice. Id like to have faith that a decent compromise candidate can be put up against Palin to derail a Republican slaughter."

Good post potlatch -
Geo. Washington was not interested in being a King or even leading the new America after the long war against England he had also not looked forward to leading
The odds were against our patriots and many of our colonists were not for breaking with England either
Thom. Jefferson was another patriot that had no interests in spending years as a politician - and had many other interests he enjoyed
Sarah Palin’s personality can be seen in the many unposed photographs of her talking off a TV camera with friends, family, she loyal backers -
She puts her head back and breaks out in a big smiling laugh - with her head back and unaware of the camera
Not quite like that other woman in Alaska I would say -
-
I believe there is a huge amount of jealosy and envy by most in the media and others in politics -
Sarah Palin can take it or leave it - and seems to be able to handle and enjoy many paths and interests in life
She may never run again for any office - or she might
She may stay on FOX and write mini-editorials or comments on her FaceBook Page site
She obviously drives Katie Kouric (and others) bonkers and publicly says she will never appear in an set-up rigged interview again with a radical biased ego-driven fading left-winger that is so obviously pimping for any democrat radical jerk the left is pushing or backing
“Sarah Palin’s Alaska” TV shows are drawing huge top record viewers now - Her daughter Bristol is pulling in top record viewers on “DANCING WITH THE STARS” and making some nice bucks herself now ($25,000 buckeroos a show?) - making lemonade out of lemons in her life - a gutsy kid - how many of us would try that against a Jennifer Grey - with or without any dance training or experience -
-
BONUS:
Sarah Palin does not play golf
Or try to fake being a great basketball player (she already made the final winning shot at the AK HS Girl’s BB Championship and was not a benchwarmer - as someone else was!)
If the bear comes after America -
Whose finger do you want on the trigger?
An egotistical thug-golfer?
Personally - I would like to see some snowmobile races on the White House front lawn when the white stuff hits DC -
.
I wonder if you watched any of the Alaska shows, I didn’t but Valerie watched the first one.
All of you are way off. Totally wrong.
Palin didn’t mention anyone’s name. With the utmost class she simply told it like it is.
She is doing what has gained her so much support all along—firing back where nobody else dares. In this case at the elitists. Nobody else does it, other than Limbaugh.
“Since you value deference to old age, am I to believe you’ve deferred to Mrs. Bush?”

I value common sense; it can come at any age. You are simply unfamiliar with recent political history and the conclusions you arrive at are wrong. You call Sarah Palin a dilletante. Based on what? She has raised five children, run her own business, served as a city councilman,Mayor and Governor. She has upended a corrupt machine in Alaska and she has been the GOP nominee for Vice President. Her efforts against Obama’s agenda are well known and were very effective, as was the TEA Party Campaign she led in 2010. If that is your definition of dilettante, you need to go back to your dictionary She also has the largest and most fervent base of supporters, by far, of anyone in the GOP.
“I’m the one who has to live with the consequences of Palin being nominated and Obama subsequently being reelected.”

Let me tell you something. If Palin is not nominated, and one of the dwarfs is nominated, that will guarantee Obama’s election. Mitt Romney? RomneyCare? No Sale.
Mike Huckabee? Pardons? Big government nannystatist? a nonstarter.
Newt Gingrich? Ten boxcars full of baggage. Too much to list
All three will cause a dramatically low GOP turnout and Obama’s turnout machine will roll to an easy victory.
The same logic you are now employing helped secure the nomination for Gerald Ford over Ronald Reagan in 1976. Reagan was far too conservative and couldn’t win. All the polls said so. And enough saps in the GOP believed it that they nominated the more moderate and “electable” Ford, who gave us Jimmy Carter. Iran fell to the mullahs under Carter and that is a consequence we are still living with, even you junior and you weren’t even around then.
The same logic you are employing would have stopped Reagan in 1980. The Gallup poll in December 1978 had Reagan behind Jimmy Carter 57-35%. I heard the same nonsense you are spouting now about Reagan then. Even as late as the spring of 1980, Reagan (according to Time Magazine) was behind by 25%. Yet he went on to win a huge landslides. IN each case, the more moderate candidate, Bush and Ford were more electable according to the polls (just as Mitt Romney and Huckabee are judged to be by the polls now)

“I’m the only Hispanic conservative in my age group”
Identity politics is exactly what the United States doesn’t need. I don’t identify myself as an ethnic conservative, only an American constitutional conservative. The conservative Candidate runs on a conservative platform. It isn’t adjusted to appeal to liberals or to groups, ethnic or otherwise. A leader persuades voters to vote for him. And that is not by appealing to ethnicity or race. The Dems do that. When the GOP tires it, it is a disaster. At its best, the GOP is the party of the individual not the group.
“I honestly don’t see a change happening in that anytime soon so while you can afford to run out the clock I can’t.”

That is regrettable. Most Hispanics tend to be Catholic and Conservative on social issues. At the present time, Hispanics represent about 8% of the voting public. They are concentrated in Texas and California and Florida. California is blue, Texas is red and Florida is more red than blue. Hispanics are not a factor in the midwest battleground states (Ohio, PA, Michigan, Wisconsin) where this election will be won or lost.
What the GOP needs to win is a massive turnout of white voters (who happen not to be Hispanic) in those states to win. It is as simple as that. Appealing to identity politics or nominating a candidate who is going to depress the turnout is the wrong solution. It is neither good policy nor is it good poltics.
There is nothing easier than telling the guy you just beat that he should forget the depths you plumbed to do so.
“READ MY LIPS” GOT US CLINTON
NOT COUNTERFIRING GOT US OBAMA”
Dang straight!
I love that picture of Sarah! What a beautiful woman, inside and out.
She’s got the thickest hide of any woman, feminist or not, that I’ve ever seen, and she’s instilling that into the young women in her family.
I liked Barbara Bush before these comments, but I have to admit that I believe she wants Jeb to run.
I’m not blaming another mama grizzley...it’s just she’s a RINO mama grizzley.
FRiend, I like Palin. She’s my #1 choice for 2012 and there is no #2.
Nevertheless, there are two huge drawbacks in what she said. First, it was garbled. Reading the transcript, I was embarrassed for her. She’s usually very good at stating a complex position without losing her train of thought; better than most, in fact. Anyone can go off-game occasionally, but Sarah Palin is not allowed to get away with it; the media wolf pack will descend on her in an instant.
Second. As you say, she “didn’t mention anyone’s name.” That’s rather disingenuous, since it’s obvious she was answering a direct question about Mrs. Bush’s snarky remark. And then you say she “fired back.” At what, pray tell? Mrs. Bush’s snarky remark. How else is this to be perceived? How else reported?
Like it or not (and I don’t), Barbara Bush is a widely respected former First Lady, and when any lady audibly emits a large pocket of gas in public, civilized people ignore it and expect others to do likewise.
Palin is never going to get any slack, and she needs (like no other) to pick her battles with extreme care. Otherwise she comes off petty, disrespectful, and light on the gravitas.
She also rates a C- on the content. Basically said I love the Bushes (this is about the Bushes...); but they’re blue-bloods (and that’s bad, hear me fellow populists...); and they’re against political competition (which is untrue and frames the issue improperly).
If you feel you absolutely MUST respond to a cheap shot, dismiss it as briefly as possible. Don’t do your impression of Mike Huckabee.
Again, for those who don’t get it, and there are always some like that here...I like Palin. I’m just not blind to her shortcomings and vulnerabilities. She has two full years to work on some very minor warts. Let’s not suggest they are anything else.
Palin is not pretentious. If she were pretentious (like Barbara Bush) she might make an effort to fabricate a response to Barbara.
Any sign of Palin backing down on anything would not be good.
I haven’t seen any sign she ever backs down. (Huckabee would have backed down and you would have lost your lunch at his comments.)
I'm not at all sure what you mean by "fabricating" a response, or "pretentious" either...after all, this IS politics ;)
But in any case, happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you!
I only meant to emphasize that I see Palin’s greatest strength is that she is the least political politician I know.
Yessirree Bob !!
This is pure deranged delusion on your part. The economic populist was Huckahillbilly in 2008...and I have not heard anything close to that coming from Sarah.
I have read her book and followed her VERY closely.
I'd like you to show an example of this 'class warfare' you claim she engages in. Sarah bashes the rich? Does she call for higher taxes on them? Does she say they 'have too much'? Really?
Go ahead, make your case. Shouldn't be hard for you if she does it 'constantly.'
Hey, big guy! It’s good to “see” you!
Phil’s graphic is great!
I hope you two had one awesome Turkey Day! ;o)
Nasty old elitists!
You are correct, but do you believe the majority of republican primary voters actually prefered McCain? No, but we got him none the less.... As long as the repup primary stays the way it is, we will continue to “Get” Rinos. We need to open with a super tuesday, 15 state voting on the same day. So someone with a “Lead” can’t be hyped by the press.
