New York Post ^ | 11/26/2010

“Costing” the State as if they had any hand in the making and marketing of things.

“and it’s costing the state tens of millions a month in lost tax revenue”

Absolutely stunning revelation by the state. How will they ever make up this “unexpected” shortfall?

New York created their own monster.

There is a point where you tax things enough where the black market comes into play

If it hadn’t cost them in the loss of taxes, it would have cost them in the policing of it, and is costing them in the policing of it.

Greed is nothing new in Government,in this case I am glad to see the black marketeers. It is time cigarettes were left alone or outlawed. Taxing people into quitting is BS.

Why do people bootleg cigarettes in New York? Why did Willie Sutton rob banks? Because that’s where the money is.

I’ve thought about doing a run or two to some southern state with a Uhaul truck. I’m afraid of running afoul of “No nose Louie” or Chief “breaka you fingers” while bootlegging smokes...

Hello New York! Prohibition did not work!

Raise taxes on an item will start a cottage industry.

I guess you did not get the memo.

” There is a point where you tax things enough where the black market comes into play “

The Ruling Class would do well to remember that, in the years leading up to the First American Revolution, Smuggling became an honorable profession...

IIRC, more than a few of our revered Founding Fathers dabbled in the smuggling trade.....

So don’t start with a uhaul. Start with a trunk full.

Just one more example of:

a) how stupid my state is, and,

b) the power of free market capitalism.

Do it. Why let the Arabs make all the money. A healthy Black Market is a good tool to fight back against Progressives. Like Prohibition. Does anyone think that if Obamacare is not repealed Prohibition will not come back?

“So don’t start with a uhaul. Start with a trunk full.”

Back in the 70’s I used to haul sheet metal to Kansas and on the way back fill up with Coors which was unavailable in Tennessee. People thought it was something special for some reason although I never could see why.

My Granddaddy did the same thing back in the 30’s with whiskey. God bless America.

If you are in the Merchant Marine and aboard ship you can get untaxed cartons for 12.50.

There’s a huge volume of untaxed smokes coming in from China that are being sold in the NYC area. The problem is...they stink. No, I mean they literally smell when you light them up.
The closest thing I can compare it to are the “punks” we used to light to chase mosquitoes away.
