Adios, storm season
HOUSTON CHRONICLE ^ | 29 November 2010

We count our blessings for a hurricane-free 2010

The turkey leftovers may be only a fond memory, but we're not done with Thanksgiving yet. Today marks the official end of the 2010 hurricane season, and that is cause for thanksgiving aplenty. The season just ending was unusually active, one of the three most active in recent years, the statisticians tell us, but the continental United States was spared. According to storm researcher Adam Lea of the University College London, 2010 was the first season since 1900 with 10 or more hurricanes in which none struck the United States.

Next year will be the one with repeated Atlantic Coastal Hurricanes, like they’ve been saying for 10 years now.

Why don’t the weather forecasters quit since they are almost always wrong in their dire predictions. Have they no integrity? Quit and admit your “science” is based on throwing darts at a map and guessing.

2010 was the first season since 1900 with 10 or more hurricanes in which none struck the United States.

Huh?

"On September 8, 1900, a hurricane struck Galveston. Winds estimated at 140 mph swept over the island, leaving devastation in their wake. After the storm surge of 15.7 feet subsided, Galvestonians left their shelters to find 6,000 of the city's 37,000 residents dead and more than 3,600 buildings totally destroyed."

I have mixed emotions. I live in Florida. I am a catastrophe adjuster. I haven't made any real money in over two years.
I am so broke I can't even pay attention.
However my house is OK. (Just can't pay for it).-

Was just reading about the NOLA court proceedings for the police officers in Katrina’s aftermath. Tragically sad.

2010 was the first season since 1900 with 10 or more hurricanes...

Not a problem. There were only three Atlantic hurricanes and four tropical storms in 1900.

Usually there is a study outlining the over all intensity of the season. Considering how many hurricanes had a short life and the over all low categories registered, it probably will be a low intensity year.

This year’s Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) index was 163, putting it in 13th place for ACE since 1944. A “hyperactive” hurricane season is considered to have an ACE index of >175% of the median. According to Wikipedia, median ACE measured over the period 1951–2000 for the Atlantic basin was 87.5, so 2010 is a hyperactive year by that definition (183% of the median.)

The Globull Warming freaks are cheering. Lots of hurricanes this season. They just didn’t strike the U.S. mainland.

It was another quiet year for my duties. Very few threats to U.S. interests. 2004 and 2005 were painful storm seasons.

Solar Activity is at a minimum right now.

Perhaps the SUN has something to do with the occurrence of hurricanes.

Funny how different regions define the words storm season.

Right now the Rockies are beginning the storm season, the ski resorts open and screaming, and residents scooping the fluff off their driveways and sidewalks. Bring on the storms.

The end of hurricane season couldn't come none to soon! What with all of those devastating hurricanes we got hit with again this season, I could hardly wait for it to get over! /s

Thankfully, it is over though. I'm still recovering from '04.

We are expecting a big temperature crash tomorrow afternoon. Nothing near freezing, though we could exercise the a/c in the morning and heater tomorrow night.

Thanks, Mr. B. I am especially thankful that you were spared this hurricane season. You’ve seen way more hurricanes up close and personally than anyone should endure in a lifetime. ok—except for Jim Cantore, but he gets paid to do it.

Al Gore is so smart that he can predict the weather 20 years from now...it will be warmer! Just put Al at a desk and fire everyone else. Think of the savings!
