Chris Dodd bids farewell to Senate
By: Shira Toeplitz November 30, 2010 06:27 PM EST
In his final speech on the Senate floor, Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd urged his colleagues to work together in a bipartisan fashion and not change the filibuster rules that have guided their chamber.
The time of my departure has come, said Dodd, who is Catholic, quoting Saint Paul. Ive fought a good fight I kept the faith.
Dodds final words on the floor mark the end of a three-decade career in the Senate for the Connecticut Democrat, who announced in January that he would not run for a sixth term. The press gallery was packed as many of the Senators colleagues listened to his speech on the floor.
Minority Leader Mitch McConnells voice quivered when he said hed bid adieu to Dodd whose speech he called one of the most important speeches in the history of the Senate.
At the age of 66, Dodd had spent more than half of his life in Congress. In his speech, Dodd warmly recalled he sat in the same desk occupied by his father, former Sen. Thomas J. Dodd, for the past 12 years.
Dodd said that while some might feel the need to change the Senate rules on the filibuster, he argued it would not help the partisan gridlock in what is supposed to be a deliberative legislative body.
Now, in my years here, Ive learned that the appreciation of the Senates role in our national debate is an acquired taste, said Dodd. Therefore, to my fellow senators who have never served a day in the minority, I urge you to pause in your enthusiasm to change Senate rules.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Invest in Democrats (2008)
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have also strategically given more contributions to lawmakers currently sitting on committees that primarily regulate their industry. Fifteen of the 25 lawmakers who have received the most from the two companies combined since the 1990 election sit on either the House Financial Services Committee; the Senate Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs Committee; or the Senate Finance Committee. The others have seats on the powerful Appropriations or Ways & Means committees, are members of the congressional leadership or have run for president. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the Senate banking committee, has received the most from Fannie and Freddie’s PACs and employees ($133,900 since 1989). Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) has received $65,500. Kanjorski chairs the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, and Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are government-sponsored enterprises, or GSEs.

Of course, the faith St. Paul kept was Christianity, while the faith Dodd kept was liberalism.
Too bad, so sad Dodd. Don’t let the door slam on you as you leave. Good riddance. Have I made my point yet?
Along with the Kennedys, Pelosi, and a raft of the other hard-core pro-child-murder Communist traitors in the Federal government.
Show me one Evangelical abortionist commie in government.
Must be a statistical fluke...

But it’s OK, He wears his secret RC magical White Hanky underwear under his suits . . . makes everything he does in them righteous by daffynition.
Only “important” if you consider the fond farewell from a crook who almost crashed the US financial system single-handedly.
Still a lotta house-cleaning to go on in that Millionaire’s Club.
Unacceptable. Absolutely, but
...to my fellow senators who have never served a day in the minority, I urge you to pause in your enthusiasm to change Senate rules.
We would be wise to understand why he is saying this. He is warning his Democrat allies, not Republicans.
Barney Franks and Schumer need to go, but their constituents evidently don't mind having scumbags represent them.
He is a worthless piece of excrement, just like his daddy.
Good call Cicero.
Can you tell me why scum like him Kennedy, and others are not excommunicated?
Hey, maybe that's what some should do in the House if Rangel's punishment is censure (instead of a reprimand).
