Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Chairman Tom Harkin told the crowd that there’s a moral imperative in extending the benefits. He also added to a growing Democratic chorus to eliminate the Senate filibuster, which he claims allows Republicans to “run roughshod over the workers in this country and our families.”

“Has the Republican leadership in the Congress lost all sense of justice? Have they lost all sense of fairness? Has the Republican leadership lost all sense of what’s right and wrong?” the Iowa Democrat said. “Where, I ask, is the moral outrage at policies that are going to allow million-dollar bonuses to the Wall Street money manipulators and then give them a tax break so they don’t have to pay their fair share of taxes, but deny unemployment benefits to 2 million unemployed Americans?”

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, and senior House and Senate Democrats were joined by jobless Americans at a press conference to protect unemployment insurance benefits for American workers.”

So they have time and money to whine about needing more time and money?

"The word is insurance — they paid into it"

What a turd. Does she feel the same about Social Security, where Illegals and never-worked-a-day-in-their-life SSDI'ers are siphoning off the dollars (which already were stolen and paid out to buy votes in OTHER Entitlements' Programs)?

See tagline.....

The employees don’t pay the insurance, the employers do.

Unemployment insurance is paid by employers covering the first 26 weeks. After that it is welfare of a sort. It’s at 99 weeks now, nearly 2 years. Why not extend it for 20 years, then we don’t have to worry about it/sarc.

Sorry for those out of work and hurting, but how long should I support you? I don’t know how long unemployment inurance should cover, but it has to be paid for by somebody, the employer and the employee!

Hey Pelosi, you’re rich, why don’t you give those unemployed people some of your money?

And take a look at those same people 6 months from now. I will bet they are employed as I read that many people found employment within weeks of their welfare running out.

Actually, it ceased to be “insurance” when the politicians got a hold of it and started voting unlimited extensions.

If it truly is “insurance” privatize it like Worker’s Comp. That would cut out a lot of waste and fraud and bring it back to insurance.

And workers don’t pay their own UI. Employers do and I personally know several small business people who have gotten royally screwed by fraudsters. My friend fired a guy for cause because he never showed up, he filed for UI and was approved despite her objections because the system is so overwhelmed the bureaucrats would rather approve everyone.
