The reddening of Mark Pryor (Dem Senator and the whining Ark Press)
Arkansas Times ^ | Tue, Nov 30, 2010 at 6:19 AM | Max Brantley

John Brummett comments further today on Sen. Mark Pryor's emergence as a vigorous voice of right-wing Republicanism in the case of gays in the military and immigrant children.

Pryor, who got cancer and fundamentalist religion along the way, always has leaned to the considerable right of his father and to the more-distant right of his mother.

Now he positively plunges in that direction, somewhat imaginatively, actually, strongly suggesting that his natural leanings have been accelerated by fear of the Republican sweep that took place in his state a few weeks ago and which presumably could threaten him four years hence when he ventures back to the ballot.

It is beginning to appear, in fact, that Pryor and John Boozman may be able to work in a single-minded senatorial tandem reminiscent of that of Pryor’s father and Dale Bumpers in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Pryor can pick and choose all he wants according to his (flawed) beliefs on where the majority of voters stand on various hot button issues. But if he builds a four-year record as an opportunistic, backbone-deprived religious zealot interested only in his own re-election, voters on both end of the spectrum will have little reason to feel common cause with him. They might fancy any old colorless Republican lump that comes along as an alternative. Or simply stay home in droves. See: Blanche Lincoln.

Pryor looks like a definite no vote on DADT and likely will be a no vote for the DREAM act.

He can read the tea leaves in AR. Obama is not exactly popular in the state and he saw what happened to Blanche Lincoln, who faithfully toed the Obama line and was swept out of office.

In Florida. The voters went against the recommendations of the ultra-liberal St. Pete Times by 95%. Thay are still in a snit.

Pryor doesn’t have to run again for 4 years. I’m surprised he is shifting this early. Though if 0bama wins again, the 2014 election will be his second midterm so it is possible the Dems could suffer major losses again.

The use of “reddening” is in the context of “red state” meaning republican, not red in the context of a “red commie”

Yes. I read a while back that Big Media used the term ‘Red States’ to describe those who went Republican BECAUSE they didn’t want ‘Red’ associated with Democrats. Not surprising as they have always provided cover for Leftists.

Still 100% Orwellian and 100% wrong and patently offensive. Republicans come off as idiots embracing the term when we should fight like hell to REFUSE it be used to describe us. Blue is the international color of Conservative parties, and Red is the very epitome of leftist/totalitarian parties, Nazis, Communists, Socialists and “Democrats.” There’s only one definition of a “Red”, and it ain’t what the ultraleft jackasses of the media from 2000 onward claim it is.

"Republicans come off as idiots embracing the term"

Most would say the Republicans come off as idiots for making an issue of it.

It really boils down to making a symbol out of a sign. The GOP relies heavily on symbols

One of my favorite examples is how the GOP uses George Soros as a symbol, a boogyman.

I couldn’t disagree more. It’s part of the propaganda/psych warfare aspect, and we are ignorant if we fail to fight that. Symbolism is important, and if we allow the enemy to falsely label us, we are losing a good part of the war.

As for your part about Soros, I don’t understand what you’re implying. Are you saying we should ignore Soros or not drag his name into the fight ? I do hope that is not what you meant. This man is about as close to being a monster as they come, and he would surely destroy the United States if he had full sway to do so.

The Arkansas Times is a FREE paper-that’s the only way it gets circulation.

I suspect that Pryor and Mike Ross are squaring off to run to succeed Mike Beebe as governor in four years.

***John Brummett comments further today ****

John Brummett used to be editor of the ARKANSAS GAZETTE, before it was bought up by the ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT.

The GAZETTE was a very left leaning pro pinko commie newspaper. When the DEMOCRAT bought it up all the editors fled to, and took over, a decent monthly magazine called the ARKANSAS TIMES. Now they have turned that magazine into a leftist piece of crap.

Guess I was wrong about Pryor shifting to the Right to save his azz: Word from his office, he will support the repeal of DADT....this will cost him the election.
