NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro police said a pizza delivery driver shot and killed a man who attempted to rob him Friday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. in the Arbors of Brentwood apartment complex on Brentwood Terrace. Police said three men tried to hold up a Jet's Pizza delivery driver at gunpoint as he was going back to his car after a delivery.

That's when the driver allegedly pulled out his own gun and shot one of the suspects. The suspect died on the scene.

The other two suspects are on the loose.

Police said the driver had a valid gun carry permit, and they believe the shooting was in self-defense.

On one hand you have to say it isn’t worth it to shoot it out over $50 but anyone willing to rob you for $50 and use a drawn weapon isn’t THAT far from just shooting you anyway. We have seen some Chinese food restaurant delivery people get capped for working in the ‘hood. Sad.

It would be interesting to compute how much taxpayer money, that would otherwise be spent pursuing, prosecuting and incarcerating these crooks, is being saved by good citizen marksmanship.

What is really troubling about all this is that Brentwood is the upscale part of Nashville....many of those big in the music industry live there.

Great shot by the pizza delivery guy, though

I’ll take a flyer and guess the victim has a rap sheet as long as your arm (as Joe Friday used to say). If he had been dealt with severely, he would probably be alive today and a productive citizen. More tellingly, if criminals in his father’s generation had been dealt with severely, we would not have a generation of thugs today.

It's going to HAVE to be worth it to shootout for 50 bucks if we are ever to get America civilized again.

It's going to be like taming the old west all over again, except this time men with courage are far and few between.

The prospect of prison is not much of a deterrant to many of the crooks today; many think prison is home, and parole is just R&R.

I think there is possible so much damage to society that many are not capable of being rehabilitated, and will live their days at taypayers expense, or die in a shootout with police or armed citizens.

There has been so many store robberies and killings in my area recently I can envision a man sitting in a high mounted chair, with a shotgun across his lap in the stores, just like in the old west, just to deter robberies and shootings and protect the patronage.

We cannot pin all of this on the bad guys, WE - the cowardly Americans - must share the blame. If we are going to stay wrapped up and paralyzed by political correctness, and diversity-for-show, then we are not only enabling this behavior, we are ENCOURAGING IT.

WHY NOT rob a store or a bank? I mean if the facilities of the prison are nicer than your home, and the food is better and more plentiful...why not?

Punishment has become a REWARD to many of these people...and that is OUR failing, not theirs.

Obama wants "death panels" created to "do away" with the elderly and infirm to save money for his chia pets who never worked a day in their lives - meanwhile, the government will allow a serial killer to sit on death row for 40 years so as to NOT violate his civil rights. Where the hell is the logic and common sense of that? It costs a whole lot more to keep someone in prison that any of us ever collect from Social Security.

Shootout for 50 bucks...damn right! I was raised that stealing is stealing, whether it's a penny or a million dollars...and at gunpoint it's even worth. You live by the sword, you should die by the sword.

If someone pulls a gun on me to rob me, it’s not about the money. It’s about my life.

I don’t know, but it sure seems these Pizza Delivery guys are much better shots than the police.

Pizza and other food delivery services should simply refuse to deliver in high-crime areas: the risk is just too great.

I'm going to hold my breath and wait for The NYT to crunch the numbers and print a 2,500 word article on it.

Good thought but the lawyers etal have made this almost impossible as the company would more than likely end up facing discrimination and profiling suits.

When delivering small packages at night, in ‘bad neighorhoods’ I will generally call the customer and tell him to meet me at my vehicle to receive his package/luggage etc.

I have had people refuse to come out at night and I would just leave and let someone else deliver it in the morning.

I (as a subcontractor) was normally packing but going from state to state can make that ‘risky’ and, of course, most parent company policy is ‘give it up’. I never had to ‘test my resolve’ though my thinking is I would have reacted to my own instincts where necessary, ignoring the company line.

Never had to resort to pizza or food delivery but rather than ‘accept certain monies’ I would do that if eating and or lodging were to be an issue.

For doing so he should get a medal or an award.

It was legitimately that driver's money, earned throgh hard, honest, and often dangerous work. The subhuman he exterminated deserved it and gets none of my sympathy. Neiher does the welfare parasite that dropped him. Too bad the pizza driver didn't get the others, and let's hope there are a lot more pizza drivers like this hero.

The armed robber you allow to get away today is the armed robber that next week beats down your 80 year old mom and steals her purse.

Ditto10.

A week ago yesterday, a Chicago Cop and an ex-CHA(1) Cop - BOTH ARMED, were assassinated in broad daylight by a 19yo parolee, who the day before had burgled the ex-CHA Cop's custom Mustang. Neither LEO even had a chance to pull their weapon. The Chicago Cop was shot in the back of the head.

The murderer was caught in one day. Turns out he had also recently tried to murder another person too, who came forward after hearing of the arrest.

And the 'reason' this shitb*g killed the two LEO's in cold blood?.. he didn't want to go back to prison for the car burglary (and yes, his arrest record was a long one).

The sad fact is these (cough) people will kill anyone, anywhere, anytime, for anything. When there's no compunction about killing assassinating a Cop in broad daylight, all bets are off.

(1) CHA = Chicago Housing Authority

Sadly, the impression I got after many years as a pizza delivery driver was, that my company would rather see me dead than be on nationwide TV boycotted by community activists as racists.

Plus, the hood is good for alot of business, from the stores POV, believe it or not, altho, from the drivers perspective, its obviously not worth the hassle and risk, tips and safety wise.
