Got it. Sort of scary in a way. What if some person was walking through the woods. I guess I just figured you lined up your sights and looked at the back drop and hunted safely. Hopefully the inexperienced ones are small in statistics. Even the experienced ones can be at risk! I mean they move/walk around.
Reminds me of an old joke that ends like this: “Okay, mister. You can have your ‘deer’. Just let me get my saddle off of him first.”
A cardinal rule of hunting (and all shooting activities in general) is to never fire if you're not certain of your target and what's behind it. If this rule is followed, no, it's not possible.
As with many of life's endeavors, people don't always observe the rules.
If you're using a shotgun, you are within 80-100 yards, and at that range, you can see the hair on a deer's eyelashes.
If they can't tell the difference between deer/bear at 100 yds. I'm going to have to start shooting other hunters at 200 yds. just for self protection.
When you are looking at something moving in the brush at dawn or dusk, it could be very difficult to tell what it is, that’s how hunters shoot other hunters. But the first rule of hunting is you should have a clear enough view of your target before you fire so that this doesn’t happen. I am surprise he didn’t “shoot shovel and shut up”.
