Cancer doesn’t care whether you’re liberal or conservative.

We’re all together on this one.

Can’t help but to wonder whether this was ‘assisted suicide’. Announcement one day, and dead the next. Interesting timing to say the least. If so, I can’t say that I blame her.

I don’t know what I would do if I were to find myself in such a situation. One thing I DO know, is I wouldn’t just lay there and suffer.

Foxnews on the radio kept reporting Elizabeth as the “estranged” wife of John Edwards. Shouldn’t that have been the other way around. Then, he is just strange. I am sorry that her young children won’t have their Mom- what a tragedy. Women - get your Mammograms. Elizabeth admitted she let four years go by without one.

She very well might have prepared her message weeks ago, asking someone to post it when she didn’t have much time left.

My aunt passed away last month from the same thing, and she had many details planned in advance, including her own service (she wanted a party, not a funeral).

I’m very sorry for her children. It’s a difficult thing to go through.

1 week from today will be the 1 year anniversary of losing my mom to pancreatic cancer. it was only 8 weeks between the diagnosis and her passing. i agree, it is devastating for an adult to lose a parent. i hope the young edwards kids have all the love and support they need. prayers for the family.

I know she was on the other side, but I liked her. What a sad ending for such a lovely woman who once showed so much promise. Her life was supposed to be charmed. Then, the loss of a child, the insane effort to produce another son as she approached 50, and finally the humiliation by the man she loved.

As for assisted suicide, there may be a lot of that going around as the final days pass before the federal estate tax rears its ugly head again. Seems hypocritical that a Democratic family should benefit.

This is very sad news. She is only a year older than I am. My mother was 70 when she died of complications of breast cancer that she first had in her thirties. I am glad that Elizabeth is no longer suffering and that she is now reunited with Wade, the son she loved so much.

From wikipedia:

Elizabeth Anania, the daughter of Elizabeth and Vincent Anania (1920–2008), grew up in a military family, moving many times and never having a hometown, as her father, a United States Navy pilot, was transfered from military base to military base during her childhood and adolescence. For part of her childhood she lived in Japan, where her father was stationed. She relates in Resilience that one of the hardest of the many relocations that she went through was having to move during her senior year of high school.[citation needed] She graduated from the Francis C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia, then attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from which she received her bachelor’s degree. After three years of postgraduate studies in English at UNC, she entered UNC’s School of Law and earned a J.D.. She met John Edwards when they were both law students at UNC. They married on July 30, 1977.[3][4]

Elizabeth was the mother of four children with her husband John: Wade, Catharine, Emma Claire, and Jack. Wade was killed in April 1996 when he lost control of his Jeep while driving from his Raleigh, home to the family’s beach house in the private gated community of Figure Eight Island, near Wilmington.[5] Three weeks before his death, Wade Edwards was honored by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton at the White House as one of the 10 finalists in an essay contest sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Voice of America. Wade, accompanied by his parents and sister, met North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms. After Wade died, Helms entered his essay and his obituary into the Congressional Record.[6]

Following Wade’s death, the Edwardses decided to have more children: Emma Claire was born in 1998 when Elizabeth was 48, and Jack was born in 2000 when she was 50. She was pregnant with Emma Claire during her husband’s 1998 Senate race. Emma Claire and Jack were born in Chapel Hill, where the family now resides. After John’s January 21, 2010, public admission that he fathered a child with his mistress, Elizabeth legally separated from him, intending to file for divorce after North Carolina’s mandatory one-year separation.

“I hope she is at peace and reunited with her son Wade.”

Understandably, I’m sure there was a big hole in her life
after her son passed away. I cannot imagine losing a child.
The grief must be overwhelming.

RIP, Elizabeth.

While yes, he is strange, they are both known to be estranged from each other - it's a bilateral state, not a unilateral state, FWIW.

Now she is with the good Lord and her son Wade who died as a teenager. She will one day be with her daughter and two young children again. I hope so. In the meantime, may she rest in peace and may her children be strong to continue on without their mother. I hope the reunion of her and her son Wade was a joyus one. Rest in peace, Elizabeth. You gave your all and now you are away from the earthy sorrows you experienced.

Her politics sucked, and to the end of her career, she tried to foist her dirtbag lawyer husband on the country...but -

- that being said, politics and life are temporary; the soul is eternal. I hope she made her peace with Christ and finds some rest.

Cancer sucks. It’s one of the horrors of life, and I will say a prayer for her soul - regardless of what I thought of her personally.

No doubt her hubby’s infidelity played hell on her mind while she was dealing with the cancer. Ol’ Silky Pony Johnny Ed needs to do some serious soul-searching himself.

Hell of a thing...how people mess up each other’s lives and think nothing of it.

1500 Americans die every day from cancer. It does not diminish the death of Edwards. It doesn't diminish the tragedy that 1500 hundred families on average experience every day.

Pray for them, and pray for some brilliant young minds at places like Johns Hopkins to figure out a cure.

I never agreed with her or her evil husband on any political matter, but I beleive she was a good, decent, dedicated mom, wife and woman. I hate cancer, having lost my youngest daughter to that dreaded sickness and killer of innocents. Elizabeth Edwards, I know you are seated at the right hand of God Almighty. He, the master, will protect you forever and.....he, along with you, will hold protective watch over your children and loved ones for eternity. Dearest woman, may you rest in peace forever.
