In an associated note: I heard the wife was in Florida with a four year old.A two year old was left in NY with Bernies son...the wife’s dad is the one who found Madoff hanging...my question...were they estranged? It just seems strange she would be traveling with one child but not both?Anybody read anything about the particulars here?

All Bernie did was show that ponzie schemes (i.e. Social Security and pensions) are immoral and eventually go belly up.

I am in no way justifying or defending what he did, but there are many more people in our own Government that are far more deserving of a life prison sentence than him.

...but they are politicians not criminals.

I'm curious. Please explain the difference.

The differences are that, 1., he got caught, and 2., a few of his victims were partially refunded.

I'm curious. Please explain the difference.

Politicians are self anointed elitists not worthy of paying for their criminal activity and criminals are criminals.

See the difference? ; )

Let him attend via internet hookup, at best. Someone in that family can still afford a laptop and camera and he can go to the prison library and watch it from there. If he wasn’t such a greedy ba$tard to begin with, he could have saved his whole family from the shame and tragedy of these continued ugly turn of events. I bet he was still making millions before he turned it into the Ponzi scheme machine 20 plus years later. What a schmuck.

There appears to be some degree of overlap.

Mark Madoff's wife, Stephanie, sent her stepfather to the couple's $6 million dollar apartment after he e-mailed her at Disney World in Florida, where she was vacationing with their 4-year-old daughter. In the messages, he told her he loved her and should check on their 2-year-old child, Nicholas, police said. He left no suicide note.

Can’t he watch it on MSNBC like the rest of us? Popcorn optional.

Thank you!
Well that makes sense...the two year old is not old enough to enjoy Disney World.

He should have been forced to attend the hanging.

One funeral I wouldn’t mind Fred Phelps and his gang attending.

Either/or would do.

I suspect gettingthisclosetoMr.X would be difficult, hence a rifle would be needed.

I can understand about Madoff’s prison sentence but what about the thieves in this administration, why aren’t they being investigated and tried?? Eveyone yaps about the “Rule of Law”, yadda, yadda, yadda, but not much movement in this regard but Madoff sure was hustled to trial and then prison in record time.

I heard he could be let out to go.

The problem is that a ticket to attend his son’s funeral is going for 64 billion dollars.

Missing certain events is one of the foreseeable consequences of incarceration, like Superbowls, fishing season, funerals, etc. I don’t understand why the courts don’t just say “maybe someone close to you dying is one of the many misfortunes you should have considered before you broke the law. You obviously gave little consideration to your loved ones when they were alive. We don’t give ‘do overs’.”

The way I see it, his son would have to live to about 190 for Bernie to be able to attend his funeral if he serves his full sentence.

Since his son is dead, that's unlikely. But if Madoff lives to be 200+ himself, he'll be able to finally visit the grave.
