Posted on 12/13/2010 1:44:45 PM PST by ButThreeLeftsDo
Controversial Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, who last month presided over the GOP's biggest electoral gains since 1938, will announce tonight that he is running for re-election, Fox News has learned from two RNC members.
Ending weeks of rumors that he would not seek a second term, Steele plans to throw his hat into the ring during a conference call with RNC members at 7:30 p.m. ET, the sources said. Steele is said to be amused by false reports of his retirement and intentionally kept his plans secret for the last month in order to flush out competitors for the post, Fox has learned.

So all that Fake Suspense for nothing.
I hope this is not true.
Maybe “sources” were bad this morning. Doesnt surprise me, my guess the anti Steele folks put the wrong info out this morning.
Are they going to be stupid enough to put this guy back in?
Better Steele than someone who is a total shill for Obama’s War.
Stupid is as stupid does.
That goes both ways too! (is he stupid enough to run for re-election?!)
This is probably more involuted than it seems. First, I’m not sure that the likely candidates would be any better than Steele. Second, I’m not sure if these “sources” trying to push him out are conservatives or RINOs. It’s the kind of think that inside operators are more likely to do than honest conservatives.
Also, that creep who quit earlier, complaining how lousy and RINOish Steele is, appears to be much more of a RINO than Steele. He looked to me like a lib getting out while the getting was good.
Finally, I’m not sure how much of that RINOish behavior of Steele’s was really his, and how much was what his handlers told him he had to do if he wanted the job. Folks like Rove & Co.
We don’t just need a new RNC chair. We need someone willing to resist the establishment and broom out all the establishment hacks who are working there. It’s not just the chair who is a problem, I suspect, but the entire staff.
Michael Steele has been a big disappointment and I believe he just doesn’t have the spine or the temperament to face down the Rove-RINO-lovers and, at the same time, be an effective spokesman for the Republican party. He sure hasn’t shown much so far. If Steele wins reelection, I expect he’ll continue to be weak and adverse to conservative candidates, making him basically useless, in my opinion. The Republican party has to be subsumed by the Tea Party and until that happens, the RNC will be hostile to real conservatives and the Chairman will continue to be their mouthpiece in the media. That is, when Karl Rove, et al. aren’t on TV disparaging conservative Republican candidates.
It’s FoxNews fabricating again. I guessed that when I saw their story this morning saying that “sources” said he was going to retire. As I have said many times, if Fox has an exclusive, it is probably not true. If you rely on Fox for news, you are being kept in the dark.
That said, it’s the only channel I watch for the commentary.
Unfortunately, Lindsey Graham was reelected, so........
I say keep all the current crooks, why change now?
“You may seek the treasure and you will find the treasure, but it will be the treasure you seek.”
—Oh Brother, Where art Thou?
“You may seek the treasure and you will find the treasure, but it will not be the treasure you seek.”
—Oh Brother, Where art Thou?
Why is Ken Blackwell not in the running this time? He’s an actual conservative & not gaffe prone.
So who f’ing cares? McConnel just sold us all out to the dems on this tax scam so he could grab power for himself.
Hard to believe he wants to kicking and screaming, but go he will.
More and more it is looking as if November was for nothing, so maybe it doesn’t matter if we keep this AA hire employed. The GOP is on life support and fading fast.
For him to get/take ANY credit for the historic vote....... is absolutely ludicrous.
Someone tell Steele thanks but no thanks!
Are you comparing Graham, who is lock step with Obama’s War, with Steele who has voiced criticism of same? Steele (for all his faults) is light years better than Gomer Graham.
I'm going to give half as much as I gave to the RNC during the past 4 years... or twice as much...or the same amount...
Nuttin from nuttin leaves nuttin, divided by nuttin, multiplied by nuttin, still the same..........NUTTIN.
I gave my money directly to candidates, and not one f****** dime to the pubbies,
I don't give a fat rat's ass which pubbie pimp is in there pleading, my money is going where it does the most good.
Well, let’s see...hmmm...what are the choices Republicans are being given...hmmm...they can keep their Christie Todd Whitman associated gaffe machine, or they can take a Bush apparatchik, or one of the Romney-supporting unprincipled hacks...hmmmmm...what to do, what to do...
How about NO. If not, then HELL NO!
Must be a glutton for punishment. Then again, can’t blame anybody in this economy for not choosing to walk away from a job.
Guess the RNC does not want my money—which has been going exclusively to conservative or even Tea Party candidates. Not a dollar to “the Party” because they still don’t get “it.”
If he leaves, they are going to put in an establishment Obama lackey.
Steele is a CINO - the evidence is overwhelming
They must think they did something right - the midterms were a rejection of Obama and Pelosi, not an endorsement of what the GOP was “doing right” - one reason they did not take the Senate is they continue down these paths.
Putting Steele back in will reflect more of the same (as you already know).
They want to make some guy names Gentry McCountryclub the RNC Chair, so he can make the party safe for the Bush/Romney/Chaffee types again.
I will never give money to the RNC as long as Steele remains.
Fine, that means I won’t be donating, money I can donate to conservatives elsewhere. As long as he is there, they won’t get a single red cent from me.
Shouldn’t that be “Sources Say Steele Will Seek Second Term As RINO Chair”
Steele is pretty much an Obama clone in more ways than one would like and his leadership and ability to recruit talented candidates who can win is very poor.
The one saving grace this election cycle was Tea Party. If not for them steeping up to the plate, the Republicans would have had nobody. If he had done his job, the Democrats would lost even more in the House and would have gotten blown out in the Senate. The money he wasted in California could have helped candidates in very close races finish over the top.
Steel was not all that bad but after he voted for Obama I lost all faith in him
January could be interesting.
Steele voted for Obama?! Source please.
Huh? He is NOT an Obama clone on foreign policy. Unlike Palin, Lindsay Graham, Newt and others he had the courage to stand up against Obama's War. They, not he, are better described as "Obama clones" at least when it world policing foreign policies.
Sheesh...grow a spine....or become extinct.
The GOP is like 25 MILLION in the Hole! IDIOCY in re-electing him!
Maybe some idiot editor at FoxNews can get away with those words, but I doubt if even Steele himself can muster the arrogance and hubris to claim he and the RNC were the critical force behind those victories.
“Its FoxNews fabricating again. I guessed that when I saw their story this morning saying that sources said he was going to retire. As I have said many times, if Fox has an exclusive, it is probably not true. If you rely on Fox for news, you are being kept in the dark.”
That, is why I didn’t put this in Breaking News.
Tho, I’ll bet that the next thread on this ‘story’ will be in BN.
Would much rather see someone who will actually fight for our side.
Sarah Palin would be good, but I dont think she wants that job.
Now watch the donations really dry up!
He may run but it isn’t automatic he’ll get it back. Rove and Barbour both have strong favorites according to Bret Baer on FoxNews.
I see no reason why he shouldn’t run. His gaffes are no worse than anyone elses. If fund raising has been a problem for the RNC, why isn’t the blame put squarely on Republicans in the Congress who have gone along with big government, tax and spend policies to the point of being voted out? Why would fund raising be easy in a tragically down economy? Especially among a jaded membership tired of pouring money into a party that doesn’t actually represent the best interests of those same people. Steele wasn’t the one who went along with big government growth while sitting in Congress for years and years claiming to be on our side.
O. OK. The way the GOP establishment works, I am sorta pleased it's not Daffy Duck. But hey, no offense to Daffy Duck Fans. Daffy could handle the job just as well as Steele, but is not a minority candidate.
After all the Democrats got one, so the GOP went and got one, too.
Because the bad economy was essentially the fault of the Other Party which had complete power. Fund raising should have been easy as pie; only a self aggrandizing self promoting huckster like Steele could be so incompetent as to scare away the big donors
I personally cant think of anyone who could have done a worse job raising money. Not even the Bush hack who held office before him.
Is this a good enough reason?
MICHAEL STEELE AND HIS COUNTRY CLUB BUDDIES KILLED EFFORTS TO REBRAND THE DEMOCRATS AS THE DEMOCRAT SOCIALIST PARY.
4 WORDS FOR STEELE; ON YOUR BIKE SUCKER
Steele is against a resolution renaming the Democratic Party.
RNC showdown over socialist resolution may be avoided

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby
Steele is against a resolution renaming the Democratic Party.
OXON HILL, Maryland (CNN) Members of the Republican National Committee appear to have reached a compromise that would let GOP leaders avoid a possible dispute over a controversial resolution that calls on Democrats to re-name their party the Democrat Socialist party.
Steele has come out against the resolution, calling it not an appropriate way to express our views on the issues of the day. One of Steeles allies on the committee, Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer(THE CROOK WHO IS NOW DOING TIME FOR EMBEZZLEMENT), told CNN the resolution is stupid and ridiculous.
However, New Jersey committeeman David Norcross, one of the sponsors of the resolution, told CNN the language is being massaged so that Steele and others on the committee will be more receptive.
The language is being changed so that the proposers and chairman Steele are on the same page, Norcross said.
He said that as of Tuesday afternoon, the chairman of the RNC Standing Committee on Resolutions had changed the language to condemn the Democrats march to socialism instead of talking about the Democrat Socialist party.
The change was made, Norcross said, so that members wouldnt have to fight about it, and I think everybody agreed.
Wisconsin GOP chairman Reince Priebus, another Steele ally, expressed confidence the proposal will be tweaked in the resolution committee, and that it should pass without issue.
