Food prices rise sharply - and there's more to come

For the first time since 2008, inflation is hitting consumers in the stomach.

Grocery prices grew by more than 1 1/2 times the overall rate of inflation this year, outpaced only by costs of transportation and medical care, according to numbers released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Economists predict that this is only the beginning. Fueled by the higher costs of wheat, sugar, corn, soybeans and energy, shoppers could see as much as a 4 percent increase at the supermarket checkout next year.

Can’t be true. The lamestream media gutted Palin when she talked about this.

Or rather tried to and further wrecked what little’s left of their cred with many people. (Was going to say “with me,” but I read the LSM how people in the USSR read Pravda - I just assume the opposite of what they say is true unless independently proven otherwise.)

Can’t be. Our seasoned citizens were told there’s no inflation so no COLA for the coming year. Now if this was happening during the Bush years I be the media would be yelling all over the place but now nothing but silence.

Good post!

The trick I’ve seen is a smaller container of ‘x’ at the same price the large one used to cost. Sneaky.

Produce: Today at the ‘cheap’ supermarket, a pound of strawberries (regular ole ‘berries, not organic or anything sexy) was $4.99. Yikes!

Also, gasoline is going up daily.

Can you buy the little seed packets at like wal-mart and hold those also? Is that a smart move? I can not afford the big seed thingy that Glenn Beck pushes....and I have NO space for storage at all...but seed packets, I can store those all day....do they keep?

Can’t be true. The govt says that inflation is under control and that ethanol and the FDA are not causing any shortages or competition with animal feeds.

We all know that the govt would never lie to us.

They wouldn’t lie to us would they?

Food is going up, no doubt about it. Thanks Obama, SB510, food for fuel, the drop of the dollar, it all adds up.

Farmers have been taking land out of production and slaughtering herds during the 2008-10 downturn. It takes a while to build them up again, but we have a lot of unused capacity in the long run. High prices will cause them to ramp up production, but you can’t grow a crop in a few weeks.

Different seeds have different storage life.

Most of them will keep for a long time as long as they are protected from light and air and mice.

Mason jar in the fridge will keep them a very long time.

So how do we solve this problem? I know! Let’s put in place a food safety bill which will drive up food prices even more...and not allow you to grow your own.

In times past, the citizenry would take the politicians out and gut them, leaving the carcasses for the vultures.

Add in gas @ 3 bucks a gallon and rising and it doesn’t bode well for 2011. The friggin deep freeze this winter looks to be pumping up heating bills too.

Baraq and Axlegrease got some ‘splaining to do.
The MSM may have to work overtime manufacturing excuses.

Buy non-hybrid seeds. Organic seeds should enable you to save seeds from the crop to replant next season. Hybrids usually won't produce useable seeds.

Gov’t: “Inflation?! There is nothing to see here.”

Anyone with a brain knows that prices are headed up and portions are headed down.

Thank you, Mr.Bernanke and the Federal Reserve for destroying our currency.
