"Don't Ask, Don't Tell," DREAM Act, Head to Senate for Votes This Weekend
CBS News ^ | December 17, 2010 | Lucy Madison

After abandoning on Thursday night a $1.3 trillion omnibus Senate spending bill, Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid filed cloture for the DREAM Act and a stand-alone repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" - both of which are now expected to reach the Senate for final votes as early as this weekend.

Reid, faced with receding Republican support for the spending bill (not to mention threats to read it aloud in its 1,924-page entirety), turned his attention instead to two bills that liberal Democrats hope to push through in the final days of the lame duck congressional session.

The Senate is now expected to vote on debate for both the DREAM Act and a repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" on Saturday morning, and the Washington Post reports that final votes on both bills could take place as early as Sunday or Monday.

The Saturday vote on "Don't Ask" will be Senate Democrats' third attempt this year to eliminate the policy, which prohibits openly gay men and women from serving in the military, and many believe it the best - and possibly last - chance to repeal the measure before a newly Republican-heavy Congress convenes in 2011.

I am getting sick of getting sick of hearing about the Dream Act, that most of Americans do not want it, we cannot afford. Is Washington just firing up the printing press to inject more money for their special projects, even though we do not have it ?

it’;s all Hannity ever talks about is the economy, so much for him being a conservative when he doesn’t have the balls to take on the social issues and the queer agenda.

Libertarians never do. Anne Coulter and I agree, Goldwater was the leas social conservative in the field, and probably had more affect on the election than the Daisy Add.

When I was in the Navy we had a place for Homosexuals, it was a little room with bars. Other wise they would have to be very good swimmers.

Adultery used to be a court martial offense, I guess Patsy Shroeder changed the military forever.

Well again, I called my 2 senate Dems for VA and
asked them to vote against DADT and Dream Act.

Webb 202-224-4024
Warner 202-224-2023

Routed to voice-mail and was easy to do.

Curiously Warner's mail box was full today.

But will it pass the House?

I have no idea how many homosexuals currently serve, but I predict that most of them are content to "not tell."

The purpose of DADT was to end the witch hunts by the military and to stop the practice of allowing suspected homosexuals to serve for 19 years only to be discharged with no pension or other benefits weeks before their retirement.

The left wants people to believe that there are countless military personnel who are serving in fear of being found out. I don't believe this is true.

The right wants people to believe that if it is overturned we will end up with "men dressing in skirts on base after work and men holding hands on base." I don't believe that is true, either.

What you likely will have is a few homosexual activists joining the military--with no intent to serve out their contract--to specifically stir the pot and push the envelope as far as possible.

With only a matter of days left in which to break the back of America, these zombies are not going to waste any of them sleeping. It’s going to be a long weekend.

it’;s a shame for you and I who are vets to see PC infest a great institution. My kids , my boys rather were looking forward to carrying on a family tradition of over a 100 years and now it looks to be I will be the last one.

Hannity etc could easily mention the don’t ask and get his followers calling in their thousands but he never mentions it because he’s a coward like so many who are on the radio or TV.
They’re happy to call themselves conservatives and talk about budgets but that is all they ever do while they collect vast amounts of money from other conservatives.
Guess money is more important to them than principles.

We heard that one guy while I was serving might have been a homosexual, he was quickly moved and never seen again for his safety I presume.

That was the only time we ever heard of a homosexual then.
Many I still know are serving and they said in other words they will not stand there and have homosexuals walking on base holding hands or them having homosexual parties on base nor will they allow men to be wearing skirts after work on base.

These people which say no big deal or so what have no idea the amount of problems which this will lead to.

Once this is repealed or if it is because no one calls due to be lazy or not bothered DOMA will be next as they will say they can fight and die but cannot marry.

I think if Manchin and Webb vote for repeal of DADT, they had better not plan on running for reelection in 2012.

exactly
A few homosexual activists will join to cause trouble and look for lawsuits so they can get more money for the next step in their agenda.

The reason don’t ask was given was to say this is your private life, and at that time homosexuals said it was their private life.

Of course it was a red herring, they of course want the world to know what gets them off . Wait till they ask for freak parades on base and the lawsuits come. Wit till two men ware holding hands or they dress as women on base.

If it passes then the congress and when we get the white house should overturn it ASAP and never allow this to happen again.

The Dream Act and repeal of DADT are bad enough each on their own, but together they are poison. Repeal of DADT will cause many of the more conservative members of our armed forces to leave the military, and Dream will encourage a swarm of illegals to take their place. A very dangerous situation for American patriots increasingly seen as a threat by the corrupted elite.

Keep those calls going.

And we can look forward to seeing marine corps blues in the Folsom Street fair.

“But will it pass the House?”

It already did, earlier this week, with a large majority.

URGENT!!!

Dream Amnesty Allows Obama To Grant Amnesty To All Illegals

ALIPAC is rallying talk radio show listeners and American citizens to call the US Senate to oppose the Dream Act Amnesty today. The bill contains a waiver that would allow the Secretary of Homeland Security and President Obama to grant Amnesty to most illegal immigrants in America.

"The Dream Act Amnesty is a Nightmare already and would displace several million innocent American students, workers, and voters," said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. "But now we find a waiver on page 5, line 21 of HR 5281 that allows Obama to grant Amnesty for most of the 12-20 million illegal aliens in America!"

Close inspection of HR 5281, which passed the house last week by a narrow margin, finds a blanket waiver provision on page 5 line 21 Sec. 6 (a)(2). Immediately following all of the promises in the bill that only illegal aliens that claim they are under 30, claim they have been in the US 5 years, and claim they were brought here by others when they were under 16, and claim they are going to college or into the military, the waiver allows all of these considerations to be dropped.

"(2) WAIVER.—With respect to any benefit under this section and sections...the Secretary of Homeland Security may waive the... ground of inadmissibility ...and the ground of deportability... for humanitarian purposes or family unity or when it is otherwise in the public interest."

This provision will grant the Obama administration the power to declare full amnesty for the 12 to 20 million adult illegal immigrants in America!

"Most of America has been suckered into thinking this Dream Act Amnesty cloture vote will just be about a subsection of illegal aliens brought here as kids and that's a lie," said William Gheen. "Americans need to call the Senate today to oppose this bill because it gives the Obama administration the power to grant Amnesty to tens of millions of illegals who will in turn destroy the borders of the United States."

Already passed House. AS for the rest of your comment, I must say, it is a breath of fresh air to read some actual logic in a comment on FR.

This place doesn’t have the quality of non-reactionary, logical posts it used to have. Now many Freepers are like zombies just mindlessly freaking out about everything.

I would prefer DADT stay, but if it goes I think a way will be found to make it work without damaging the military.

The DREAM act is the real villain that must be stopped here out of the various bills.

That's reassuring. Glad to see you backed that up with empirical data.

The point has been reached where no one, not even FOX, will come out with any viewpoint that opposes gays. This is because of FEAR of reprisal! Is this what America has come to?
How in the world did a nasty sexual perversion manage to get itself elevated to a “minority” and exercise such power over America? Such was the fall of Rome. I smell smoke.
