NRO ^ | 12/20/10 | Robert Costa

Posted on 12/20/2010 12:56:00 AM PST by Recovering_Democrat

On Sunday night, after a weekend of wrangling, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) filed for cloture on the New START treaty, setting up a crucial Tuesday vote on whether to end debate. A final vote could come on Thursday. As Josh Rogin observes, keep an eye on Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) as the clock ticks...

Let’s do away with elections. Marxist democrats get everything they way after they get beat in elections, seems odd but true.

A better message would be: “Hey, Builder Bob, don’t forget you are up for re-election in two years! We sure won’t!”

.....Hey, Builder Bob, don’t forget you are up for re-election in two years! We sure won’t.....

He has no fear. Tennessee will not elect a conservative. The power and money lies in the hands of the moderates. We just elected a new governor who is from the Alexander/Corker/Brach mold.

Big ol’ “I told you so” moment for anyone who thought that November’s election results were a reset button for the whole batch of bullshit being shoved down America’s collective throat. They have only days left and think no one is paying attention; they will redouble their efforts trying to cripple us for their masters.

There's a HUGH difference from a Cloture Vote and a senate vote on passage of a Treaty. The commieRATS 'only' need 60 votes for cloture but they need 67 Votes to pass the Treaty, and I don't see 67 votes there.

In any case this treaty should NOT be voted on now. I downloaded all of its parts and this thing needs to be reviewed carefully. It's in Five Parts and has a total of 356 pages(1) and is NOT something that a Lame Duck senate, with time running out, should even be looking at.

The Treaty itself is only 17 pages, but the Protocols are 165 pages.
And after that there's Three Parts of 'annexes' for 174 pages.

Tennessee will not elect a conservative.

Can't speak for your area, but we just got through tossing a "blue dog" (Lincoln Davis) and elected a Conservative, Dr. Scott Desjarlais here in the 4th District. Tennessee also sent Fred Thompson to the Senate a couple of times. It's possible. I think Corker is going to get challenged. He's pissing a lot of people off, especially the people who vote.

There are easily 67 votes:

58 Democrats plus the following RINOs:

Lugar
Snowe
Collins
Brown
Kirk
Corkum
Voinovich
Murkowski
McCain
Kyl
Graham
Lamar Alexander

The Dems only need 9 of these 12 clowns to pass this sell-out to madman Putin.

——I think Corker is going to get challenged-——

I don’t doubt that. In North East Tennessee US Rep David Davis a conservative was defeated by the conservative but more moderate Phil Roe after one term and doing a good job.

Realistically, I don’t see a challenger winning. I say that after working hard for Ed Bryant a good solid conservative who just couldn’t get the support needed to win.

Reid will not bring up a vote if he doesn’t have the 67 votes.

The Missile Defense clause is in the treaty and unless it's amended it will always be a part of the treaty regardless whether Obama writes a letter or not.

He could be trying to attach a reservation, which is a legal exception to the treaty as a whole that would allow its ratification absent that element.

It's shaky and I don't know if this is what he is doing, but a reservation is a substantive thing.

It takes 67 votes to ratify a treaty.

That is MSM nonsense. From Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 of the US Constitution:

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur;

Go read your Constitution, for once, and then read this. You'll learn what a screw job was hidden in it. RINOs have been a problem since before the ink was dry.

but they need 67 Votes to pass the Treaty, and I don't see 67 votes there.

I'll bet you a hundred bucks donated to FR that a treaty can be ratified legally with as few as 34 votes, being 2/3 of a quorum.

Or you can read post 34 and cure your appalling ignorance of the Constitution. It's two thirds of SENATORS PRESENT, not two thirds of the Senate. Fixing that mistake is one of the most important Constitutional amendments we could ever ratify and we should clarify the supremacy clause while we're at it.

As it turns out, treaties may have been ratified with fewer Senators than 2/3 of a quorum, as there are often fewer in the room while the Senate is still in session and I have records proving at least the possibility.

There are many holes with this treaty which Republican senators should consider before voting. The Russians have been modernizing their nuclear weapons. They removing their older SS-18 missiles and replacing them with their more accurate SS-27 missiles.Every treaty we have signed with the Russians they have cheated.
During the SALT I and SALT II treaty era, four new types of submarine-launched ballistic missiles, five improved versions of existing SLBMs,and four types of intercontinental ballistic missiles(the SS-17,18,19, and 25)were introduced that were in direct violation of the treaties.SALT II was the foundation of the U.S. “second missile gap,” which arose in the early 1980s and was one of the main reasons for Ronald Reagan’s strategic armament buildup.
